Jenny | 8050 comments I listened to this line yesterday, I think the doctor said it when cholera came to town via a ship, and the harbor master or someone talked about setting off the alarm cannon hourly. Clearly, the scene is etched in my head. Anyway, this line made me fall over laughing as I just imagined it being chanted at a maga rally in the US-
"Save the powder for when the liberals come!"

(Bring a liberal myself, I try to avoid rallies like that. teehee)

Melindam | 8291 comments Better stay away, Jenny. In Hungary, we have our own version of maga-s to keep away from. :)

Melindam | 8291 comments Btw, anyone been to Colombia or some other part of South America or the Carribean?

Jenny | 8050 comments I have not traveled south of the border here. Except to Nogales for a day. Doesn't really count.

They are everywhere! I keep thinking it is the death throes of the heterosexual (mainly) white male powerful jackasses of the world. They are not happy with the fact that they are no longer the default definition of human, and that they are just another sub-category. The death throes seem to be taking a long time though.

Jenny | 8050 comments Sorry. Don't mean to get political.

Melindam | 8291 comments I share your views, Jenny, so I am OK with you getting political. :)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12855 comments I don't class myself as anything, because there seem to be no political parties out there that share my views...

I'm not an anarchist, as I believe in peace and order, but I am anti-politician. 😆

I've been to Chile and I'm going to Colombia for work in September :) I'll probably be super busy but it'll be minimum 10 days so surely I'll see at least a little bit of the country...

Melindam | 8291 comments Wow, Judy! Hope you'll have a little time to go around.

Apart from the Maldives, I've never been outside of Europe (I have a chronic fear of flying) . But I googled Cartagena & the area around and the pictures show a gorgeous seaside and islands around.

Judy | 4065 comments I'm trying to get a good chunk of this done today while doing mindless work tasks but neither the book nor my tasks want me to keep going... it's an alright read and I'm very glad I have the audiobook, but I'm definitely not loving anything about it.

Same here, Judith. I pushed myself to finish over the w/e, but I was so glad to see the end of it.

Beautiful writing and atmosphere could take me for some length, but not all the way.
