Hardcover books, because they have a bigger font than paperbacks. I rather pack less shirts and less shoes and pack instead 3 or 4 hardcover books. However, our last trip to France (we just returned on 5/19) lasted 3,5 weeks and 5 books turned out not to be enough. In Marseille at the train station I was lucky and found two paperbacks in English ("Silver Tears" by Camilla Laeckberg was a big disappointment, but "WIN" by Harlan Coben was good).
For traveling it’s a lot easier to bring my kindle.
Neither because I would get so carsick😔🤢. But if I didn’t get carsick, I would prefer paperback.

always paperback. I don't haveva kindle but even then, I would be afraid of damaging it while traveling

I had only space for packing my own stuff in a top case and in one of the cases at the side of the motorcycle.
I was able to fit in the Marlene Dietrich autobiography by Maria Riva (800 or 900 pages) and "Gone with the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell. I finished reading both books. :)
I'd say paper but if I want to travel lightweight, I'd go with kindle
