Please share feedback about this challenge here. Any information shared will be used to make this challenge better.

*Just a reminder that all feedback should be helpful but not rude. I have been attacked in the past in other groups. I don't expect that here but I feel I have to remind people anymore.

*Note: I am aware that several people dropped out of the challenge and/or switched to non-competitive. Some people who I know usually play competitive just signed up non-competitive from the beginning. I would like to discuss this in this thread. I didn't fully think this out prior to running the challenge and I apologize if you felt it was geared to faster readers. I have an idea how to fix this next year.

I want to create 3 levels.

Levels:
Non-competitive
Medium Competitive (still deciding if I need a minimum)
Super Competitive (must read a minimum of 20+ books per month)

Thoughts? Good idea? Trash it? Go hide back under my rock?

Kat (bookworm2017) | 1433 comments I liked the smaller challenge I just felt overwhelmed with too many eggs to collect and think there was a lot of blue covers would’ve been good to mix it up. It doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate all you do for this group because I do. I wanted to give honest feedback.

Thanks, Kat. There were a lot of eggs. I think I lost track of what colors I used. I will try to do better next year. Thanks for the feedback ; )

message 5: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments It was my first time, but I enjoyed it very much. I am a collector at heart, and have completionist tendencies, so this plays right into those for me.

But I get what Kat is saying. This challenge dictated about 90% of the books I read these past few months, and I think for most people that might be too much pressure. I certainly struggled during UNO trying to fit the Egg books to UNO mini tasks!
All my other challenges suffered too (especially Listopia! lol), because there was so little wiggle room, and I read a LOT, so I can understand people who read less feeling overwhelmed.

I never played the one month version, but it sounds like that would be a lot less of a marathon for people.

I loved it either way! 😁

Jazzy, that is why I gave you the thread. You were supposed to track them there. I removed the eggs after a while. You can either post the egg itself and the task or a description of the egg and the task.

The one-month was a non-competitive version.

I don't think I properly understood any of this. I found one egg but couldn't find the thread to post it and when I had time later I forgot where it was ahahahaa

message 12: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 992 comments I had a lot of fun, and look forward to playing again. I like playing competitive not because I think I can win, but I like seeing how I'm doing against everyone else - didn't want to play in a void for a easter egg hunt :) I liked the non-reading bonus of the phrase - so even if you couldn't read for every egg, you could still earn some extra points after finding all the eggs.

I personally could have used a little more time after the last eggs were pulled - maybe keep the amount of eggs but add a couple more weeks on the end.

Thanks!

So you think it maybe should have been a 4-month challenge??? June could have been a reading month. Interesting idea...

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 823 comments Thanks Donna, I was very excited to find the eggs!

message 16: by valeria (new)

valeria | 636 comments I really liked the challenge, i would have liked to make it competitive, but i figured i wouldn't have much time to do it, what cost me was the genres that i hardly read, and have a few more days to finish the books that are still missing, and thanks for the challenge, the search was fun, although there were some that were difficult to find

message 17: by Catsalive (new)

Catsalive | 1475 comments I still have 5 eggs to fill so either I need less eggs or more time, but I won't close my challenge off until they're all done. I was very happy with the non-comp, just tootling along at my own pace with no pressure. I let the books I'm reading find the eggs rather than the egg dictating the book, so it takes a bit longer to fill them all.

Maybe - I'd be up for that. I mean, there's only so many pink books I can read a month Donna :D

Donna (dkflynn33) | 7436 comments Mod
LOL! There were other colors besides pink. Kat said there were a lot of blue...

message 20: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (anastasiaruff) | 1726 comments This was my first time and I enjoyed the challenge. I liked the competitive version just so I could keep track and it gave me more incentive to keep up. I felt the amount of time given was just right for me. What I didn't like was logging bonus points for using the books in the other challenges in HOB. My challenges are usually spread amongst a few groups and I have over 20 going at a time so I wasn't going to add any extra just for this as feeling overwhelmed as it is. I would have liked to be able to see what my score would be without the bonuses as I did try to choose the larger books.
I did like the extra puzzles incorporated into the challenge and I liked that there was a choice for the book with each egg.
Overall I had a lot of fun.
Thanks Donna

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 3759 comments I had to specifically go out and buy a pink book for that last one 😆

Yeah, it takes me a good hour to update all my challenges after I finish a book.

My own fault for being a challenge junkie I guess 😆

Hey, I didn't twist anyone's arm and tell them to join 20+ challenges. However, I may have encouraged you to join a few more. You don't have to take the bonus points that I offer. They are there if you want them 😉. I take no responsibility for challenge junkie addiction. I am sure there are groups out there to help...🤔

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 251 comments I enjoyed it but I do agree that there were a lot of books of similar color you had to find. I didn't notice the blue but I did notice the pink (mostly because I don't read as many pink books). I liked the variety of genres and I liked having a choice between two tasks. It was a lot of books and I agree that it would be nice to have a couple weeks after the last egg is posted to finish up. So posting the last egg in May but giving us through June to finish.

I chose non competitive because I didn't want the pressure and this was my first time playing. I ended up reading a lot of books and probably would have done alright if I'd played competitive.

I didn't even notice how many pink eggs I created. Leave it to you guys to notice something so obscure. LOL! I will do my best next year to create more diverse and colorful eggs.

message 27: by Shan ~A~ (new)

Shan ~A~ | 1248 comments I thought the idea was great, but I stopped because I just didn't have time to hunt for the eggs (when I did have time it was fun trying to figure out where they could be). As others have said there were quite a few with the same colors, but luckily there were other options to choose besides the colors.

I would definitely try again just to see if I can do better at it the next time.

You know, I liked the multi-color eggs - like giving us a choice of aqua, pink, or yellow covers for example.

Yo..."

I didn't think they were a choice. I read it as needing to have all the same colours.

I think I ended up doing genre or letters for those eggs, but I like the idea of having a multicolor egg where there are a few choices for colors (vs finding a cover with all those colors) - may add a little flexibility to getting all the egg tasks done.

Nobody asked me about those multi-colored eggs; I have always been flexible. When presented with an idea like that, I would say choose any of the colors. When in doubt, always ask.

From all the talk over in Book Games, seems like a Leverage challenge would be intriguing to folks - I'd love to help!

Ooo, that could be so fun - if I put together a challenge outline / ideas, would you be up for taking a look?
