Help!

BEFORE I START, THIS POST CONTAINS MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR THE HUNGER GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I need help from someone who has read the entire hunger games series. I'm broken. WHY!! Not only did all the deaths in this last book totally end me, (view spoiler)[ Namely- Prim, Boggs, Finn (just after he was married, too), even Jackson grew on me, Cinna... okay, who am I kidding? All the deaths were awful, but Prim's was the worst and least expected) (hide spoiler)] , but Peeta's mental breakdown and then Katniss's mental breakdown were my final straw. I know that technically they ended up living happily together, but I needed a bit more then "eventually, things were semi normal and I was semi happy again. Then, I was actually happy, and we had children. I was still traumatized for life though!" Also, where was Peeta the whole time that Katniss was recuperating?? They needed each other 😢😢.

Okay, that was a long rant but I needed to get it out of my system. Does anyone have any thoughts? Head cannons? Uncontrollable rants brought on by a love for Peeta and/or Katniss?

(view spoiler)[Prim's was horrible. (hide spoiler)] I never really got over that one and I read it ages ago. I guess it had to happen to show the evilness of Coin. But why kill (view spoiler)[Finn (hide spoiler)]? That one served no purpose. I was OK with (view spoiler)[Boggs, Jackson, and Cinna (although he was great) (hide spoiler)] as it progressed the plot.

I think Peeta still hated Katniss so couldn't help her. They messed him up even more than her.

I suppose if we read a book about kids being forced to fight to the death as entertainment for the masses, it's going to be pretty grim though. If they were all nameless deaths it wouldn't have been so believable.

Did the cat make it?

(view spoiler)[Also, it hurts my head when I think about it too much, but she went into the Games to save her sister, ends up picking sides, then the side she picks ends up killing her sister anyway. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ The cat did make it, which was nice I suppose. The thing that really gets me is that the deaths just happened. They hurt, of course, but Prim's death was over in a second, and with everyone else who died, Katniss barely grieved. It was, oh, Finn died, and oh look! So everyone else. Moving on! Of course, Katniss fell apart later, but I feel like that was brought on more by what happened to Prim then everything else. I just feel like with the way everyone died, it just made it a bit weird.

On another note, Gale and Katniss's mom absolutely vanished. I understand Gale, but what about her mom? You'd think that with everything that happened they'd want to be together, but I guess not... (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Good point! What happened to her mum? Gale they do cover, like you said. That doesn't make sense at all about her mum - do they not mention her again? Surely she would be grieving with Katniss despite their rocky relationship.

I agree, the deaths do just happen (I felt the same way with some of the deaths at the end of Harry Potter.) I agree re Katniss grieving too, but I can understand in the heat of battle they need to move on and grieve later. But then she did grieve for Rue while she was in a death arena ...

I preferred the first two books - I felt the third one was a little rushed in general, but still great.

I've seen the movies, which I like too, and I always forget if the cat survived in the books too. I'm glad they made it :) (hide spoiler)]

I agree, the epilogue was barely a band aid for the trauma of the end. I also wonder about the cat. Also? I would like to see the book they created.
