Shaya soon learns her keeper is a drakon, a legendary creature from the northern mountains, but her struggle for acceptance is hampered by invaders riding into the valley on the backs of more drakons. Not only is the safety of the entire tribe threatened, but Shaya’s place among them is in danger as well when they begin to question her loyalty. When circumstance forges a shaky friendship between Shaya and a headstrong drakon rider girl, she realizes the invaders might offer what she’s always wanted. She must decide whether finally belonging is worth turning her back on the people who rejected her and betraying the few who still believe in her.
