The first book of this series still haunted me to this day. Mainly because I still remember sobbing while reading it on a crowded bus. I then followed the series with gusto until such time that a particular male character I was partial to was killed(!!!) My protest was in the form of stopping to read the series for a number of years. While I still like Maisie Dobbs and her sleuthing and well, I guess I'm starting to like this new beau of hers but I'm still missing that one character. I don't think I'm going to get over it lol

As usual, Maisie is standing up for those who cannot speak for themselves for one reason or another. And in the midst of it all, war work cannot wait and Maisie faced distressing news one after another. One thing I really do like about how these books end is how there is full closure of every single thing; it's so satisfying.
