Happy April!

Starting this week with Thursday Nights by Lisa N. Paul and Relinquishing Liberty by Maureen Mayer.

message 2: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cawils_99) I'm in the middle of An Invitation to Scandal (Sins & Scandals, #1) by Kelly Boyce and Rogue with a Brogue (Scandalous Highlanders, #2) by Suzanne Enoch both are very good so far.

I'm rereading again for an H&H post. This time I'm going back through Julie Anne Long's Pennyroyal Green series looking for references to Lyon Redmond--a fun assignment. I am looking forward to several of the new releases tomorrow, particularly those by Jo Beverley, Jo Goodman, and Jodi Thomas.

Lyon was working as a puppeteer in London in one of the books; also, there's a reference that his brother Jonathan looks a lot like Lyon, just not as tall.

Thanks, Susan. There are literally hundreds of references--more than 175 in I Kissed an Earl alone. I'm glad I have digital copies of all the books. It makes this kind of research much easier.

Kym | 206 comments Starting the week with a thriller. No romance as far as I know.
A Thin Dark Line
Not sure what's up next. I've got many just-started books, but none of them are cranking my tractor. I've got what I call "restless reader syndrome" in which I can't find anything new I want to read. I guess I'll re-read one of my go-to books to get out of the slump.

message 7: by Charlene (new)

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 320 comments I've started Grace Burrowes' The First Kiss (Sweetest Kisses, #2) by Grace Burrowes and I have a beta read I must get to, like, yesterday....

message 8: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Hill | 487 comments I'm continuing with Lorraine Heath's scandalous gentlemen series. Anyone ever see the movie Overboard? This book really reminds me of the movie so far. Once More, My Scandalous Rogue so far is fairly good. The heroine is so awful you don't even care something bad happened to her.

message 9: by John (new)

John Hennessy | 63 comments Close to finishing Mary Balogh's Only Enchanting. Been writing like a demon so reading hasn't been a strong focus for me. But this is a recommended read so far!

message 10: by Phoenix77 (new)

Phoenix77 | 346 comments I've got too many open books right now! I'm finishing up What the Duke Wants and started Lizzie Shane's Falling for Mister Wrong. If I get through those two quickly then next up is Grace Burrowes' The Duke's Disaster.

message 11: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (staceyissassy) I'm reading a historical romance Moonstone Obsession by Elizabeth Ellen Carter . I'm at 15% and liking it so far. Set in 1790 when the King is mad, the skirts are as wide as a bus and the men wear wigs...unless you are the confident rake... :-)

I recently read Only Enchanting and really enjoyed it, can't wait for Only A Promise. Just finished The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy, I loved this book. Loved and hated, was angry with and sorry for Richard at the same time. Great read.
Now reading Alex Berenson's Twelve Days.

Wasn't Only Enchanting wonderful, John and Marni? My favorite of the series so far. Though I am looking forward to Only a Promise.

After my NA encounter with Sawyer Bennett's Cold Fury Hockey team, I wanted to try more NA, so I found Cora Carmack's Faking It. The set up is kinda convoluted, but it's cute so far. Not blow me away great but good. And it's pretty funny.

Manda, I have to admit to have gone a strange way in reader the Survivors series. I read The Escape first, I believe it is book three - Only Enchanting is book four and Only a Promise will be out soon, right? Anyway just finished the book this afternoon. What a read....Mary Balogh is a fantastic author and well...I could have read the book faster but wanted to savour it. Absolutely brilliant book and both h/h were great characters...most of all they are memorable ones!

Glad you liked Only Enchanting, Marni...! What a great book!

Joining in the chorus of praise for Only Enchanting, I too loved it. I think the whole series is great, although I didn't like Only a Promise quite as much as I did OE. Only a Kiss should be interesting. Balogh says that the hero, unlike the partners of the other Survivors, has "neither a trouble nor a care in the world—though that, of course, is his problem!" I am most eager for George's book, tentatively titled Only Beloved, which won't be released until 2016.

Yes it would be great if these characters had some major problems....but I guess it is true to the period set, so I suppose it is realistic in this aspect.

Irisheyes | 896 comments Just finished THE DUKE'S DISASTER by Grace Burrowes. I really enjoyed it. The only thing that prevented it from being a five star for me was that I think the Big Misunderstandings went on a bit too long, especially on Noah's part. Otherwise I loved her characterizations and voice. Noah's relationship with his brothers-in-law was hilarious. I think I'll start glomming some of GB's backlist - it looks like I've got lots to choose from!

Romanticbookworm | 77 comments I am still reading and enjoying The Salem Witch Society by K.N. Shields (library book).

message 20: by John (new)

John Hennessy | 63 comments Has anyone read Beyond the Sunrise by Mary Balogh? I realise it is not part of the Survivors series, but it is out in a new print and I grabbed it. I'll be reading this before Only a Promise....just wondered on your thoughts! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

A friend of mine loves GB books and she keeps telling me to give her a try! But she has written so many, where would you start?

John I read most of GB books but with irritation. She has a lovely writing style and does relationships well. But struggles with plotting and with the mores and customs of tbe times.

I really enjoyed her contemps so you might start there.

John Beyond the Sunrise is an early Balogh and much more angsty than her recent work. I like some of those and not others but whether you like it or not try the recent books too---A Summer to Love and the Slightly series...

John, a different opinion on Burrowes's historicals: I find her characters so engaging that I find it easy to overlook some inaccuracies, and I find it easier to suspend disbelief for her plots than does Deb. I particularly love her Windham series.

Hi, thank you for your comments! I do read contemp romances, but if I am honest, prefer historical ones...just because if they are well written, the author can really take you into that world, and into that moment in time!

I hear good things about the Slightly series. I suppose once I have read Beyond the Sunrise I can catch up. MB has written so many!

Good call, thanks Janga. I will look up GB's Windham stories, see what grabs me!

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 320 comments I just finished Shana Galen's latest, Earls Just Want to Have Fun (Covent Garden Cubs, #1) by Shana Galen .

I'm sorry to say that I did not like it as well as I have other books she's written. But the characters did grow on me, and I will plan to read the second in the series when it appears.
