How far into a book do you decide if you want to continue reading it?

I do the same thing, Tanja. If I'm buying off the internet, I read the first pages as well. Descriptions though are so often wrong, misleading, etc., that I skip them entirely. I go straight to the narrative and judge from the writing and voice.

I usually wait a few chapters in. I can usually tell by that point if it will hook me or not.

I'd say at least 100 pages, or even half way. to be honest even if I'm not enjoying a book I try to complete it so when I write my review I'm writing it about the entire book.
