Short answer, We believe she's the new Ark of the Covenant. Think of all the objects kept in the old Ark. Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of what they symbolized. He is the eternal high priest that does not pass away. He is the New Law, the fulfillment of the old law. and so forth.
Just as Jesus Christ chose to come to the world through the Virgin Mary, so, too, does he choose to come, spiritually, to us through her as well.
