So off the top of my head, I have an idea for an alternate history in which the American Civil War never ended. The story follows the exploits of a Confederate special operations soldier and a Federal Spy who are forced to work together in an unofficial coalition of North-South resources to defeat a number of enemies of world peace despite their hatred for each other and the on-again off-again nature of the ongoing Civil War.
When the story begins, there's been a ceasefire for 2 years that's threatening to end in the wake of Korea's announcement of independence. For over a decade the Korean peninsula was the illegal site of Federal nuclear testing; it has declared itself a sovereign nation and seized two nuclear weapons that they're threatening to use on the Japanese Empire.
It's meant to be a Burn Notice-esque, Leverage-esque psuedospy drama.
As far as horror goes, the north and south have some pretty horrific experiments they hope to unleash on their unsuspecting enemy...
Wow! I love the idea but...I have a few minor questions. What would the time period be again? >~<
Also...I do not know if you wanna do this idea with me~ I have never done something like this and I do not know how detailed I could go for an idea/topic I never really adventured into.

1: The story, so far as I have envisioned, is meant to take place 2000-ish. The Cold War has ended, all the former Soviet nations are now the EECAP (Except Russia, which is now the Russian Federation, and other than invade Alaska hasn't accomplished anything important in the last decade). The 2001 Terrorist attacks, and the subsequent War on Terror, hasn't happened yet (or ever).
2: If it turns out you're the worst writer in the world, at the very least I'll still have ideas for 2 new characters in this setting and even if we never make it past the 2nd post, I'll still have been forced to write some form of exposition from which I can develop the story until I do find someone I like.
3. I've written more for this setting than I'd think most people do, so your mission (if you choose to accept it) is to read a long copy-paste from a Word document.

This map is by no means complete; there are a few typos, I forgot what EECAP stands for (Eastern European Coalition of I Forgot To Write It Down), and the State of Deseret isn't marked on the map (It's like part of Texas, a lot of Utah, New Mexico, Nevada).
Like I said: This is an alternate history setting, meaning my biggest inspiration is actual history. (Well, mostly American History; I ignored most of World History and I've never taken a history course for another country) For example, Deseret was a real place for a very short amount of time but in this story it's a very dangerous place.
I do not think I am the right person for this idea~ Really. I am more World History then American so I do not really feel confident in this. I find it remarkable that you put so much time into this idea but I believe you shall have to find someone who is more able to provide you a decent role-play. I can be detailed but only when I am confident in what I am writing about~ I am afraid I cannot do this idea with you because of that. If I am going to role-play with someone I wish to give them my best and I doubt I can do that with this. I am very sorry.
>~< Ummm....I dunnooooo xD Haha~ I have a random starter that I did a while back about a mentally insane girl escaping from the hospital. Its an old starter and it could use a few tweaks. Maybe we could come up with an idea based off of it? It certainly would include an horror aspect of it because of the mentally unstable capacity of the girl and perhaps the methods the hospital uses? I dunno xD I could post it if you want and we could dissect an idea from it?

If you really want to play up the horror aspect, I'd suggest something like a 1890's-1900's (before or during WWI) psuedo-noir in which an investigator of some description is tracking down the disappearance of a friend or relative in the New England area and uncovers something truly horrific. Perhaps your character is hired as a guide in the town, then his deputy when no one believes his frantic ravings.
*Sighs* I dunno. That does not seem interesting as much either. Seems we both cannot agree on each others ideas....Maybe we should just drop the horror aspect?

We can even tie the two ideas together: Perhaps no one in the town will speak to your character or go near her because she's a bit "off" and no one knows that she's escaped from an asylum? What if, years earlier, my character was involved in the investigation that committed her, and he doesn't know it, but she plans to kill him as soon as the investigation is complete?
Otherwise it's your turn to suggest something.
I like the combined ideas together :) Its gives the two characters some history with each other without them knowing. Sorry if I seemed a little picky~ I am just really getting back into Goodreads again and I want a role-play that will be interesting and fun for the both of us :) Something that will last longer then just a few posts.

So, I'm thinking Detective receives letter from disappeared friend that names her specifically as someone to talk to, because disappeared guy trusts her because he knows no one else in town does? (But he doesn't say that to Detective)
She's just happy to have someone to talk to? (and later realizes who he is)
Yeah :/ It sucks~ But...I am sure we will have a thriving role-play :)
Yeah ^~^ And maybe at time she has relapses after figuring out who he is exactly?
Yeah ^~^ And maybe at time she has relapses after figuring out who he is exactly?

Additionally, as they uncover increasingly vile things, maybe she slowly influences him...?
How old do you intend for her to be? More importantly, how old was she inducted and how many years has it been since then? (So I can figure out my character's age, which will have to be *at least* 17 + service + how long it's been since she escaped + a year or two so he's forgotten what she looks like)
Hmmmmmmmm...I think somewhat of an age gap so if your character was around 17 at the time she was put in then she would be around 15? Fairly young age for her being put in the asylum. She would surely be in there for another two years perhaps for a long sentence and time for her to feel the boiling rage that your character gave her. So she would be 17 then at the time of that which would age your character up to 19. 17 would be the age of her escape then. It would be about...Three years since her escape so people would not realize she was once an escapee. She would be 20 and your character 22. Then you wanted to add on a year or two so my characters age would be roughly around 21-22 and your character 23-24? Correct? Please feel free to add in more years if you feel they needed to be added anywhere ^~^

1: What was she inducted for? Anything from "Female Hysteria" to murder http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_h...
2: Did she escape, or did her sentence end? Maybe she's been given a clean bill of health, so the people in the town know what she is and they're still uncomfortable around her, but no one is trying to get her locked up again?
3: I'm thinking my character is either a Pinkerton who's taken holiday for his investigation, or a retired Pinkerton. Have you ever played Bioshock Infinite? It's protagonist is probably going to be my biggest inspiration.
1. Hmm...I am thinking she actually is mentally insane just in general (No need to go all into detail in that yet~ I think I might have an idea but..I rather reveal it in the role-play) but she gets caught and thrown in when one day she snaps and ends up murdering something? Then they figure out that she is not the sanest of people and throw her in the asylum instead of worse punishments? Maybe that can be a twist...Your character was trying to put her into a mental hospital because he did not want to see her get killed possibly for murder? So it was out of the good of his heart but my character does not realize that yet?
2. I think the idea of an escape is much more suitable. She would probably not stay in the same town so she would move along to a new place and stay down low and eventually she is able just to be 'normal' despite everyone being uncomfortable around her cause I do enjoy the idea of the citizens not knowing who she is.
3. I have never played Bioshock Infinite >~< I do like the idea of him being a Pinkerton though :)

So, she went crazy in the asylum? (IE, her "Murder" prior was in self-defense or something?) Or was she legitimately mentally ill all the way through?
2: So no one knows who/what she is. Escape the disappeared guy? Or maybe he didn't know she was crazy, he just knew she was an outsider like himself.
3. Ah, it's a good game. Long story short, the protagonist is a retired Pinkerton detective who was at the battle of Wounded Knee, a huge slaughter in which American forces wiped Native Americans off the map, and then when he was a Pinkerton he was involved in "Settling" the worker riots-but Pinkerton "Settling" ended up in shooting 6 people.

1. I will see what I can find for her that will suit what I am looking for in her illness xD No, She would not be screaming and wailing all night though.
She would be legitimately unwell all through the way~ Due to her illness that would have caused her to murder which would put her in the asylum.
2. Maybe the disappeared guy would know? It would make it interesting. He would keep it a secret from your character thinking it was no big deal at all.
3. That does sound interesting 0~0 I might have to play it one day ^~^
4. I like that idea :) No need to make things too easy on them xDD

2: Disappeared guy definitely has not told my character any details outside of "Contact Ms. X, she can help you"
3: It's a fucked up game.
4: So I'll definitely be going with William DuChamp, son of a French immigrant and southern plantation family. 1890 means the Civil War was only 30 years ago, so neither of our characters are old enough to have been alive during it but they're still feeling the effects.
1. I was thinking she would have been apart of a abusive relationship surrounding her father~ So he would abuse her one night and she suddenly just snaps and kills him.
2. Okie ^~^ And do you want my character to know about the investigation whatsoever at the beginning or have your character explain to her once they met? So she does not really know he is coming or whatever
3. I enjoy fucked up games xD
4. Okie ^~^ I love the name...I dun have one for my girl yet :| *sighs* I am never good with names
5. Are we going to have any..*clears throat*..mature themes that are not allowed on threads? I believe it would be interesting if somewhere during the role-play they make a mistake and end up sleeping together xD

2. She knows she hasn't seen Missing Guy in about 2 weeks. She doesn't know my character is coming.
3. lel It isn't fucked up like mass murder or anything. It's like when you finish playing, you feel like a total piece of crap. I don't want to spoil why
4. I have 3 different notebooks with lists of character names so I never forget my good ones. The easiest thing for me is, where does your character come from? We'll be in the New England area (north-east USA), so she could be German, Dutch, British, or Irish-descent.
5. "Mature themes" ? Like explicit, full-on, balls-to-the-wall, no-pants sexytimes? Esh. As roleplaying is a glorified form of wish fulfillment for most writers, and we're playing characters of opposite genders in which 1 is bad at relationships and the other is easy to take advantage of, I do see it as an eventuality, but if we get to that I use the good-old timelapse mechanic. Once writing gets past PG13 we skip to the next morning, or so. (Unless you want to take it to PMs, which I will be unlikely to respond to)
Haha xD I find it funny we are doing numbers to each thing we are discussing. Time-lapses are fine by me ^~^ I was just wondering if our characters would do that or not in the role-play. I am sure we got all the basics down now huh? Any other questions? Are we doing character templates or no?

2: Will our characters make sweet, sweet love? Probably not. I intend the story to be fairly quick and William will be more concerned about protecting her (or himself from her) and solving the disappearance than anything.
3: "Character templates" ? First, I think you've used a malapropism; a template is a basic sketch you fill out for new characters, not one you use for a specific, new character. Regardless, I reveal my character over the story. Writing things down now limits me considerably and reveals too much outside of the exposition.
Would you like me to start?
Mmkay ^~^ And yeah...You must forgive me if I mix things up C: I am watching Ten Commandments. I hope you do not mind if I provide a picture of what my character looks like though in spoilers in my post.
Yes, If you could :) I am not that good with starting off role-plays.

2: I'm playing Tales of Maj'Eyal and I was watching Collateral Damage earlier
3: Thank you for not leaving as soon as you didn't like my idea. I've had that happen too many times.
William DuChamp sat alone in a posh booth in the first-class cabin of a private train. He may have been raised in the sun of a Georgian farm, but his years of seminary and boarding schools had made him grow accustomed to the deferred treatment expected by wealthy individuals. He himself was no rich man (had he been he'd have quit his job years ago, or have become a more affluent alcoholic), but took no issue with paying premium for a more pleasant commuting experience. He had been on that train for some hours, travelling north from New York on a working vacation. On the table sat folded the ominous letter he'd received but two days before that inspired this adventure further into the New England area (specifically the small town of Laker's Bay).
William pressed its fold back with one finger, resting his cheek against his other fist (arm propped on the window of his cabin). Written in an a characteristically frantic script, he quickly reread the letter from an old friend, Alexander Dale:
Dear Detective William Carter,
It has again befallen me the disproportionately hostile response often caused by the discovery of my more unorthodox experiments. It is with some sadness that I feel I must move my little workshop of horrors once more, this time perhaps into Canada. If I survive the cold, I'd quite like to host a vacation you so desperately need. Afterall, you speak their whimsical tongue better than I ever will.
Unfortunately I doubt I will be able to host anything ever again, however, for I suspect my end in the near future. The populace here has proven oddly understanding of my arcane musings, and that troubles me greatly. It is truly a terrifying experience for a self-proclaimed madman to feel at home. I fear I may fall into the folds of a plot insidious before I am able to flee. In such a case I sincerely request that you make yourself present with the utmost urgency. There may be creatures here worse than I.
William was, he'd admit, no fan of Alexander's occult quests, but he owed the man a great debt and found the timing convenient; he was almost physically ill when considering his mode of employment and had desired such a vacation for over a year. Whatever Alexander expected to befall him would likely be no worse than a night in jail, if the citizenry of Laker's Bay even understood the man well enough to determine he was doing anything wrong. Whether William expected trouble or not, however, he felt all the more confident with the feeling of his Colt Peacemaker's hammer poking his stomach.
William folded the letter and slid it into the inside pocket of his black jacket as the train approached the station. As he left he donned his hat, then extracted a healthy fifty greenbacks from the telegraph office. Laker's Bay was several miles west of the nearest train station, and with the early november snow required a horse to be rented to make the trip at all possible. William travelled lightly, requiring less than a trunk to carry a week's worth of clothes, a second revolver (one can never be too careful), and a book gifted to him by Alexander he was desperate to return (it had foul, occult content William could never bring himself to read and feared trying to sell or burn).
(He'll get to Laker's Bay next post but I figure that's enough to read)

//Such fancy vocabulary xDD And no problem, I understand one cannot always agree on the first idea given :3

2: You don't have to match that level of writing perse but I'd appreciate any effort made.
3: I'll be on for another half-hour most likely, then I'm off to bed. I doubt I will be able to provide quality posts during school hours
//Sorry~ Started working on the post but school hours and meetings are limiting my time to role-play
