Ellen | 3525 comments Long Beach Homicide Detective Danny Beckett is called to the scene of what appears to be an excessively cruel and senseless murder. A homeless man had been set afire by three teens who are quickly apprehended near the body and they had smugly captured the entire killing on video. What at first seemed to be an open and shut case became much more as Danny tried to learn the identity of the victim. Known only as Bishop, the homeless man was kind and gentle, often offering the little he had to those even less fortunate. Danny is determined to give the man the dignity of a name but as his investigation continues he learns that the three teens were obeying the orders of someone much more powerful.

I really enjoyed this story and will definitely try to find more by this author, especially as this is #3 in a series. Hopefully 1 and 2 are available somewhere. I like Danny's dedication to his job and the care he gave to a homeless man who had already faced more than his share of sorrow in his life. It's a good one.

Booknblues | 12160 comments I've read all of this series and really wished he had written more. I felt that it was really good.

He also does have a stand alone which I thought was very good as well, Mercy Dogs. I think that was released in 2018 and I keep waiting for something more from him.

If you like this one, you should go back and read the others. I love the title of this one.

I read this one first and had to move backwards as well. In fact I read #3,#2,#1 in that order and then read 4.

Here is my review for Cold & Broken:

It's been a while so I had to go back to see what I said.

Ellen | 3525 comments Thanks Fran, I will definitely read the first two books. And I will check out any others by the author as well.

It is good. You should probably not follow my and Ellen's example and start with the first which also has a great title, A King of Infinite Space
