Booknblues | 12120 comments I just loved reading The Ministry of Time and I have a new book boyfriend, Commander Graham Gore, he died in the ill-fated Franklin Expedition searching for the Northwest Passage in 1845 or so we thought:

All you need to know is that in your near future, the British government developed the means to travel through time but had not yet experimented with doing it....

In order to avoid the chaos inherent in changing the course of history—if “history” could be considered a cohesive and singular chronological narrative, another crock of shit—it was agreed that it would be necessary to extract people from historical war zones, natural disasters, and epidemics. These expatriates to the twenty-first century would have died in their own timelines anyway. Removing them from the past ought not to impact the future.

So Commander Graham Gore was brought back through time
and to monitor his progress and health he was given a "bridge" or house mate/caregiver/Ministry employee who narrates their story.

This book is a wonderful mash-up of time travel, science fiction, spy thriller and some say work place comedy. I was gripped from the moment I began reading it.

If this sounds at all interesting to you pick up a copy and read it!

Booknblues | 12120 comments I was sold on reading this from Ron Charles of the Washington Post's review. I am gifting a copy, because it is so much better than my own review

Holly R W | 3132 comments I enjoyed your review, Fran! This is a book that's been on and off my TBR. Now, it's back on again and sad to say, there is a long waiting list for it at the library.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12609 comments Thanks for the review Fran. I had this on my shelf, then took it off-it is now back on, thanks to you.

Booknblues | 12120 comments I really loved the book. There were parts in which the pacing was a bit slow, but I didn't mind because I was getting to know the characters.

Once the pace picked up, there were some surprising twists and turns.

The ending put the fifth star on for me.

One note there were some pretty explicit sex scenes at over the half way point, but I feel if they are not your cup of tea you can just skip them,

John, I almost recommended it to you because I know how much you appreciate time travel.

I like the twist that they brought people who were close to dying forward in time and taught them to adjust to the future.

I'd love to talk to you about it when you read it.

I just began reading it so would love to discuss when completed. However, be patient since I'm currently reading six books.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12609 comments haha! My kind of reader John-currently have 7 going!

Booknblues | 12120 comments Will do.
I am only reading 3, but generally one wins out and the others have to wait.
