1. Who was your favorite character?

Cartier

2. Who was your least favorite character?

Brienna's biological father and brother

3. If you could change one part of the book, what would it be? (Spoiler?)

I would have made some aspects more realistic. For instance, 🚨🚨🚨(view spoiler)

4. What did you think of the ending? (Spoiler tags, please!)

Oh, dear! Since I already read the 2nd book, I cannot remember exactly how/where this one ends.🤭 I will come back to this if I remember.

5. What was your overall opinion?

It was quite good, particularly since it was a debut. I felt the romance was well written and appropriate, despite the 🚨🚨🚨 (view spoiler)

✧Bella✧ | 6809 comments 1. Who was your favorite character?

Possibly Luc. I love Cartier too, I just felt like maybe he shouldn't have (view spoiler) So, not 100% sure about my fav. I also loved Merie.

2. Who was your least favorite character?

Allenach. Rian is prob second.

3. If you could change one part of the book, what would it be? (Spoiler?)

Hmm...maybe made it so Brienna was older when she and Cartier first met. Although I'm not sure if that really could have been done without messing up the plot.

4. What did you think of the ending? (Spoiler tags, please!)

I was surprised at how much like a stand-alone ending it was. I mean, I'm sure there's still plenty to be read about, but some stories might have just ended there.

5. What was your overall opinion?

It was very good. I didn't like it as much as the author's most recent duology, but this was her debut, and it's very impressive as such. The romance was cleaner than in The Letters of Enchantment too, which I appreciated.

Merei

2. Who was your least favorite character?

Rian

3. If you could change one part of the book, what would it be? (Spoiler?)

I feel like I would change which passion she choose because knowledge seemed kind've boring to me. It turned out to be somewhat interesting but still - that one guy refused her because she forgot part of a lineage of Kings. ‍‍(I guess it just proved it wasn't the guy for her)

4. What did you think of the ending?

It was good but a bit abrupt and everything "perfect"(I guess other than the revelation of her parentage) There just wasn't quite as much conflict as I was expecting.

5. What was your overall opinion?
(This is maybe has some spoilers) Good, but not my favorite. I didn't like most of the main characters, though Merei was fun. Also, the whole "a Queen must be the ruler no matter what" turned me off a bit because it didn't seem to acknowledge there could be good kings not just evil chop-off-your-head-if-you-dare-question-me-kings. Of course that drove the whole story so it did make it interesting in that way :) Ross' description were superb though. That was probably my favorite element!

Yeah, I couldn't figure out why it had to be a queen on the throne. I said in my review that gender shouldn't be what decides who rules--merit should.

Yeah, I didn't care for the fact that there could only be queens, or the fact that apparently in other kingdoms, there can only be kings. Why can't everyone just accept that men and women are equal.

Exactly. It shouldn't have anything to do with gender. I meant to mention that in my own review but forgot. I wrote it BEFORE working on my WIP, so I might have rushed a little, and I had a situation with my laptop freezing up when I was in the middle of typing it, so that kind of distracted me. Maybe I''l edit it eventually and mention that.

Chloe W | 241 comments The whole queen thing also didn't feel entirely necessary since it could have been more of a focus on the 'rightful heir' and getting rid of the uuserper.

I guess, regarding the heir needing to be a queen, I could see if the heir needed to have magic. Was that just the women with Kavanagh blood? I don’t remember if the Kavanagh men had magic. I don’t think so, though. Why magic? Just because it’s a fantasy, I suppose.🤭

Yeah, I agree.

Men have magic, although not as strong as the women, but only in that one family. But then (view spoiler)

Right, I remembered the spoiler part. Just couldn't remember if the men had magic. Thanks for that info.😊 I just don't see why she felt the need to make ruling gender-based.

✧Bella✧ | 6809 comments Who knows. I wondered that myself.
