Lea (leaspot) | 3635 comments Join us as we read The Break-Up Book Club.

Breakups, like book clubs, come in many shapes and sizes and can take us on unexpected journeys as four women discover in this funny and heartwarming exploration of friendship from the USA Today bestselling author of Ten Beach Road and My Ex-Best Friend’s Wedding.

On paper, Jazmine, Judith, Erin and Sara have little in common – they’re very different people leading very different lives. And yet at book club meetings in an historic carriage house turned bookstore, they bond over a shared love of reading (and more than a little wine) as well as the growing realization that their lives are not turning out like they expected.

Former tennis star Jazmine is a top sports agent balancing a career and single motherhood. Judith is an empty nester questioning her marriage and the supporting role she chose. Erin’s high school sweetheart and fiancé develops a bad case of cold feet, and Sara’s husband takes a job out of town saddling Sara with a difficult mother-in-law who believes her son could have done better – not exactly the roommate most women dream of.

With the help of books, laughter, and the joy of ever evolving friendships, Jazmine, Judith, Erin and Sara find the courage to navigate new and surprising chapters of their lives as they seek their own versions of happily-ever-after.

Patricia | 1136 comments I haven't heard of this one, but I'm intrigued. I thought I had read some of her books, but I guess that was Abbi Waxman. :)
My library has a copy, so I will try to pick it up. (I already added Ali Hazelwood to my Spotify audio list.)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments I am waiting on my copy from the library should have it by the end of the week.

Alissa Patrick (apatrick12211) | 1802 comments I'll be starting it this week! Looking forward to it!

I haven't read anything by Wax either, just Waxman as well. So it will be a first for both of us.

I hope you like Hazelwood. Love, Theoretically was a bit more spicy than books we read previously, but at least it was all concentrated in one part of the book. Alissa and Lindsey and I are reading her recent YA book, Check & Mate, in June. We'd love to have you join us if you're interested! :-)

Yay! I have it already, but I think I'll be able to wait until the end of the week or the beginning of next when you all have the book. I hope we like this one!

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 192 comments Hello ladies, this book sounds fun and who doesn’t like a book about books and book clubs! I’m going to join you all if you don’t mind. I just need to start and finish Happy Place by Emily Henry before my Libby takes my audio back!

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments My copy just came in today so I will pick it up tomorrow.

Wonderful, Linda! So happy you're joining us. I hope you like Happy Place too. Lindsey and I are looking forward to reading that one later in the summer. Happy reading!

I'm about 26% in, just starting Chapter 12, but I will slow down and wait for the rest of you to start. There's something that just happened that I want to ask about. :-)

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 192 comments I’ve started but only 11% in, I’ve been introduced to all of the ladies and I have thoughts. I plan to get more read today.

Do you have a favorite point of view? I like all of the ladies, but if I was forced to pick just one, it might be Jazmine.

So far I like all of the ladies. Right now Jasmine seems a bit out of place just because (view spoiler)

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 192 comments Lea, I’ve made it to Chapter 12, I’m going to stop for the day.

Regarding your spoiler, yes! I was shocked too. I like how this author is taking what we expect to happen with these characters and turning it on its head. The trajectory of each of their lives have been dramatically changed.

Yes, I think you're right about her story being the most different from the other three. Maybe why it sticks out so much. I like all of the ladies too. And some of their friends! Meena is so funny.

Right, we are expecting all the things to happen, up but the way it’s all happening!!! 😬

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 192 comments I agree - chapter 12 - (view spoiler)

And you are so right, this book is really good!

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 192 comments One more thing, regarding Sara - (view spoiler)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Made it to chapter 7 last night, enjoying the story so far. You got to really feel sorry for Sara, I don't think I could handle getting news like.

Yes! I thought the exact same thing about it not ending well, but certainly did not expect what happened to actually happen.

I agree with your spoiler. I really like Sara as a character. She's been through so much and yet she is resilient. She seems sweet, but she is super tough.

Same. What happened to her is what we all have nightmares about happening to us. It's just awful.

Alissa Patrick (apatrick12211) | 1802 comments I think so far Sara is my favorite, although honestly there isn't anyone I dislike (in terms of the ladies,,,, efffff Mitchell!!)

This bookstore sounds glorious and I wish it were real!

I'm so glad you joined us too, Linda. Loved reading your thoughts, it makes reading so much more fun.

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) | 192 comments Yes it does, I love buddy reads!

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finally finished this morning. Loved the book. I think my favorite character might have been Dorothy just because of her transformation from the beginning of the book to the end.

Patricia | 1136 comments Glad to hear you all enjoyed this one. I have it checked out from the library, but need to read one for a book club first. I need to quit looking at different challenges since I always want to join in!--I just spent a few days at the beach. Hit up a library sale & a used book store (yes, I did go to the beach). Anyway, I almost bought this one but I did buy another of hers While We Were Watching Downton Abbey, so now thanks to the positive reviews here, I have two of her books to read. :)

I never watched Downtown Abbey. I know, I know. I don't watch many shows. So I'd be interested in what you think about the book. Do I need to watch the show first?

I did discover that my library has quite a few of her other books on audiobook, including the Ten Beach Road series, which seems very popular. Hmmm.

Patricia | 1136 comments I've had this book checked out for a month and finally getting around to it. (Good thing; since I just had 3 books on hold come in). I'm about 60% in & enjoying it. At first, as I read through all the "break-ups", I thought this was going to be depressing (I know--I should have gotten that from the name), but it's not. I like the different characters and the ways they are facing the different types of difficulties they're in. Being a Braves fan, I'm also enjoying that part of it.
