I recently engaged Bassey to review my 100K word YA fantasy novel. She delivered her report promptly; it was all very clear aind I thought it reflected a deep understanding of the manuscript and what I was trying to achieve. Fifteen pages of notes and commentary gave me a good idea of where the story hits and suggestions where it could be improved. She also provide over 100 comments in the manuscript document, that show the real-time reader reaction to key events. And she answered follow-up questions quickly. All very useful and good value for money.
Bassey did a beta read for my full manuscript, Ancient Shadow that was 135k.First off, her honest reactions were hilarious to read and gave me an indication what was going on with her while she read it. In saying that, there were times I felt self conscious about my work, it was one of the first times I shared my writing with anyone, so I reached out to her and she could not have been more kind with her response to me. She was understanding about the vulnerability that comes with sharing your work and took the time to assure me it was all part of her process.
When I got her final report back (I want to say it was less than two weeks) she was thorough, honest and provided critical feedback regarding multiple things I had not thought about. I could easily see she put a lot of thought into her report.
Additionally, after using her feedback to make some of her recommended changes, after a second beta read (for part 1 of my novel), the feedback from that reader seemed to directly align with the recommendations that Bassey originally provided. This tells me that Bassey's attention to detail in what other readers like is accurate.
I should hope to work with Bassey in the future, and I would recommend you folks do as well. Her rates are more than fair, even to say that it's a good deal!

Just received feedback from Bassey today. I am very pleased with what she has done. She was communicative, patient and professional. She left in line reactions which were helpful in seeing the reader’s experience to the story. The ending report was thorough with clear instructions for improvement, but sandwiched in a way writers (who are sensitive about their work) could digest. I was cautious as this was my first experience with a paid beta reader, but after this I will absolutely be using her again in the future.

I had the pleasure of working with Bassey for beta reading of my short story collection. She did a very good job, was polite, encouraging, and provided both reader reaction and technical suggestions as part of her report out. I consider the rate very reasonable, and the work product was delivered within the agreed upon timeframe. Sharing my experience with this beta reader in case it's helpful to anyone else.When I paid Bassey she agreed to answer some specific questions after she finished her review.
I reached out after two weeks had passed and she had yet to open the document. She informed me she was under the weather and hadn't finished yet and would need another week.
At the end of the week she sent a report that was broken in to two parts, two paragraphs of high level impressions for each act, and a longer report, all of which was exceedingly positive. The longer report was oddly vague, except for the parts where it referenced things that were not in my book (references to kings, princes, waterfalls, etc. none of which were in my manuscript).
I was fairly satisfied with what I received until I realized she clearly sent me a template and had copy/pasted it improperly.
After pointing that out to her, she updated the report, removing some of the references but leaving in others, and gave me short answers to the questions I had originally asked for.
Overall I was disappointed with the experience. I would have preferred earlier communication about the delay so I could have made alternative arrangements. But most importantly, when I realized the report was copy/pasted from someone else's review it made me feel like I had wasted three weeks on the process, since it is impossible for me to tell what feedback was genuinely directed at my book and what was part of the template.
Just before you posted this (and I mean a minute before) I just paid to get a review. I'm working now to cancel it. Timing is everything.

I came to your email as well as other authors I had their manuscripts for last month with me that I was down in health. I was critically ill not just under the weather, that is why I have no post from last month.You specifically told me you understood. After reading I gave you an over 10 pages report( how can I give a 10 page of vague report) with the answers to your questions (I didn’t take an extra penny for answering the questions coz I know most betas do). I also explained that I had a clipboard issue and mistakenly copied what wasn’t into your report from my notes into the goggle doc file and I apologized for that and redid the report despite my health concerns all because you told me you had a deadline to meet. Again I apologized telling you all the reasons and later did a better job. This is the first time this is ever happening and it was because of my health. Once again I am sorry.

Bassey is a great beta reader! I've sought Bassey a couple times now and have always been impressed with the quality of feedback. With a background in writing you will feel assured that your story will be read with your vision in mind.
If you want someone who is not afraid to point out your typos and grammar( lol my fault), without being obnoxious, alongside a deep dive into your story structure and its details, Bassey is a great choice.
Responses are timely, cost is very reasonable, communication is excellent, and attention to detail is top notch. Bassey is great at providing constructive critcism while pointing out story strengths. Alongside Basseys thorough review you may ask to have your own questions answered as well.

Hi Bassey, this is really nice! I love how you explained the value of beta reading and the way you support authors.
Firstly, she was incredibly prompt and professional when it came to communication. Secondly, the amount of work and detail she put into reading and giving feedback on my manuscript was more than I could ask for. She gave real time reactions to the manuscript with in line comments that felt sincere. On top of that she delivered a full report on my manuscript which included things such as chapter by chapter feedback, a main review, and specific thoughts on characters, descriptive style, suspense, twists and more. I can't say enough how immensely detailed she was. As well, she delivered all of that in less than a week and at an affordable price. I already have plans to work with her in the near future on my query letter and second manuscript.
If you are looking for a beta reader who will give thorough, honest feedback I would once again highly recommend working with Bassey. Lastly, I just want to say thank you to Bassey for the effort and detail she provided and I look forward to working with her again.
