I listened to the audiobook narrated by the author himself and I must say that he's got a pretty good voice; easy to listen to. My problem was that I didn't really know what the book was about or I thought I did but I really didn't so I got very confused at the start. And then, I checked the book description and it all made sense in that there were 3 different perspectives in 3 different time settings interconnected through the novel, Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf. Goodreads informed me that I have read Mrs Dalloway and enjoyed it but for the life of me, I cannot remember it at all! So that's another detracting point in that I cannot draw the inferences that author probably intended.

There were 3 women and as they struggled with the everyday which I could completely understood as I do too at times; it just felt like they were thinking too much about things that probably didn't quite matter in the bigger sense of things. Then again, this might be how people dealing with mental health do think which I could sort of sympathise but not truly empathise. It's just heart-reading. And then, the same sort of incident ((view spoiler)) bookended this story and I'm so very unhappy about that too. Overall, not a novel for me at this time.

Joy D | 10200 comments I do think it makes a difference to have recently read Mrs. Dalloway to fully appreciate this book. I read them in close proximity and it definitely added to my enjoyment.

Booknblues | 12155 comments Years ago, I bought Mrs. Dalloway and The Hours with the intent to read them both and compare. I read Mrs. Dalloway in 2002, I still intend to read The Hours, I just can't find the right time to move it to the front of the line.

Tien (tiensblurb) | 1641 comments LOL BnB, now you have to read Mrs Dalloway again before The Hours. I do feel it's tightly connected though I couldn't see how but as Joy said, it helps to read them pretty much back to back. Maybe one day (far away in the future), I'll try to reread both.

Joy D | 10200 comments I mentioned a few of the interconnections between the 2 books in my review.

(just in case anyone is interested)

That's another thing I'm not keen on... stream of consciousness *sighs*
