I will update these tags/warnings as needed as I continue to read.
I had to put it down for a break this past week for my own mental health so please proceed with caution!!
It's been a hot minute, hasn't it? :)
Hopefully, everyone has been doing well.
I have officially completed my first year of grad school!
One year down, two more to go!
Now that the semester is over, I have a bit more free time and would love to get this book club rolling again for at least the summer months.
BIG thanks to my cousin, VIV, who led the last couple of sesh!
Instead of rolling out a poll for May since this message is popping up quite last minute, I am using my executive power to select this month's reading (lol). We will restart the poll next month! From now until mid May, please drop all book recommendations down here!
For May, I'd love for yall to join me in reading A Little Life.
It's supposed to be devastating and yall know I love torturing myself lol but who doesn't love a good and oh so very sad book to cry over and think about for nights on end after it ends .... LOL
When four classmates from a small Massachusetts college move to New York to make their way, they're broke, adrift, and buoyed only by their friendship and ambition. There is kind, handsome Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, a quick-witted, sometimes cruel Brooklyn-born painter seeking entry to the art world; Malcolm, a frustrated architect at a prominent firm; and withdrawn, brilliant, enigmatic Jude, who serves as their center of gravity.
Over the decades, their relationships deepen and darken, tinged by addiction, success, and pride. Yet their greatest challenge, each comes to realize, is Jude himself, by midlife a terrifyingly talented litigator yet an increasingly broken man, his mind and body scarred by an unspeakable childhood, and haunted by what he fears is a degree of trauma that he’ll not only be unable to overcome—but that will define his life forever.
It's good to be back yall! :)
