whatstellareads | 2 comments I just pick from my TBR which I keep under 100books and pick a book based pf the genre I am in the mood to read (I only keep one book per series on my TBR to help it keep short). I do occasionally review my TBR and make appropriate deletions and additions based on recommendation from social media.

Kind of boring, I know. But it works.

Lee Bryant | 3 comments It depends on my mood and whether I wanna switch genres. It also depends on recommendations from those around me, those get bumped up to top priority

Flamingo | 25 comments i go off the TBR i make for each year and if the book is unavailable or I'm not feeling it, i pick another one then go by the list

thats so true tho

Flamingo | 25 comments I used to strictly follow a list I made for the year, but I've found it's better for me to loosely stick to that list as books that I really should get to in the year and then read whatever I might want to at the moment alongside the list.

Arina Aparina | 1 comments Hey everyone! 👋

Have you ever picked up a BookTok-recommended novel, expecting something groundbreaking — only to feel... underwhelmed?

I just read an honest and thought-provoking essay from a Russian author on this very topic. She shares her experience with It Ends With Us and how it made her question whether BookTok sometimes promotes emotional reactions over meaningful storytelling.

She argues that while it's great to see people reading, the trend toward "if it makes you cry, it's good" may be overshadowing deeper literary value.

If you're curious, here's the piece

I’d love to hear your thoughts:

Have you ever been let down by a TikTok hit?

Do you think strong emotion is a fair measure of a book’s quality?

What recent reads made you think, not just feel?

Let’s talk 📚✨

Baruj E. Cohen | 5 comments For me, it is a complex yet simple process of selection. I pick up books based on world building and characters reviews, I mean characters challenges and missions. Then I put the books in order from High Fantasy, Scifi, and literary fiction, romance, romantasy, etc... I put them in order of interest, and finally, I start the book whose story and characters appeal to my current state of mind...

Chasie 🦋 | 232 comments i can only read whichever book i’m drawn towards the most at a given time. i’ve tried making lists of my top-priority books but when i finally get the time to read it i find that i just can’t, and i end up reading something else

definitely a mood reader

message 71: by michelle (new)

michelle | 10 comments depends on my mood. i range from y/a to dark romance to fluffy reads to non fiction (rarest but existent!) and pick a book by searching it up or going through some reviews! kinda funny, but i usually don’t even check my tbr, therefore it’s simply endless and at 800+

¯`·.·౨ evelyn ৎ·.·´¯ | 2 comments I sleep, reread my favorite wattpad mafia story (Costantino by Dreams xoxo) take a peek at my tbr, pick something off my tbr, and then proceed to get through it in 5 days and have a slump for the next 3 weeks before repeating.

message 73: by Cristal (new)

Cristal I usually go based on social media. or based on my past books I have read. the major thing for me is that it has a good plot. So I usually go to the bookstore and if the front of the book looks interesting I read the summary in the back and I go to good reads and see the reviews and skim through what they say.

message 74: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 9 comments uhmmm I go to bookshops and randomly pick books with nice covers?

message 75: by Shreya (new)

Shreya | 21 comments Choose a book from my tbr that I am in the mood of reading. If not, research and watch youtube shorts of the most popular books of a specific trope or genre. Or ask my friends what they recommend.

ʜʀɪꜱᴛɪᴀɴᴀ | 49 comments I’m a mood reader so it really depends but sometimes I scroll through my tbr in goodreads with closed eyes and choose something random lmao. 😭 I also have the fable app which has an option to choose a book from your tbr.

message 77: by yyagmurrtk (new)

yyagmurrtk | 54 comments I have a tbr prompt jar that I just randomly choose a prompt lol

message 78: by michela (new)

michela | 67 comments i mean, i just choose based on my mood! for example, after a long fantasy series, that took me a lot of focus effort, i usually tend to read something lighter that i can find on kindle🫡
