Hilda Roy | 14 comments I am looking for feedback on the first act of my novel - a hopefully funny-sad (with emphasis on the funny) crime fiction.

I am mostly interested in whether the story hooks and then holds the reader, and if you find it funny / interesting.

Blurb: Margo wants to forget about her disastrous personal life, such as her failed marriage and now errant, Californicating husband. She would rather draft patents on colon-gripping bristles reminiscent of the propellors on the bloody Titanic. In fact, that is exactly what she is going to do.

So, when during a seemingly random carjacking, her assailant blurts out the name of her husband's lover, Margo says nothing, burying this and any worrying implications.
Nothing to see here people!

It is not that she will never deal with this issue
- she will, but later (much later i.e. at some unspecified time in the distant future, preferably when someone has invented time travel and possibly invisible cloaking devices so that she can go backwards in time and discreetly fix everything so she never needs to deal with those issues in the first place. She has dropped enough hints with her clients.

But then a body is discovered and linked to the carjacking and soon the police and an army of amateur sleuths descend, unearthing and sharing clues - threatening to expose Margo what has so carefully locked away.
Margo must join the race and destroy the evidence.
Unfortunately so must the murderer leading to fireworks...
.
