Caden seems like such an obvious choice that it makes me think it's a misdirection. Could it be Gage? He seemed shocked by the car in the water but Caden seemed like he didn't want them to pull it up.

I'm curious if she and Nico will finally figure it out

and where did all that money go that her mom took out?

and they tried so hard to keep hiding it from her.
I thought the list might not be a repair list but might be a search list. I didn't realize it would be a list for her to search until she'd found the jewelry. I'm so sad her mom came back for her and something happened.

What was the dad doing to these women? Why couldn't they leave?

and I hope she forgives Nico but maybe it's better if she just leaves this town. . .

and ROY! I really thought it was Gage too and I'm sad his dad did as well!! so many secrets, if the kids had just talked instead of being angry at each other, this book could have been about 4 chapters long! lol
I love that she worked on houses and fixed that one up. I love that they split it once they realized why the dad had given it to her (to protect it from Roy)

(view spoiler)[Wow! Why would there be TWO cars, especially if one was her mother's? I did feel like it would be her mother's car and with the car and the luggage being hers, obviously it appears to be foul play. So, I wonder if her mother was really the one who left her the so-brief note.

I suspect both Caden and the father. Caden doesn't seem too concerned about Jamie and I find that very strange. It just seems like with the mom's note, her luggage and car found, and not having heard from her that someone, Caden or the father (?) offed her. I agree that giving Hazel soul custody of the house seemed rather strange, not the typical thing so at first I was wondering what had his two sons done wrong; but, now I'm wondering if HE did wrong. hmmm (hide spoiler)]

I had a feeling that her mom's letter to her was written by someone else, so it now appears that someone copied and changed it. Ugh...WHO?

Yeah, it's really messed up that they hid so much from her AND to protect what one thought was his dad's wrong-doing. Ugh...awful! (hide spoiler)]

Finished!!! I thought this was great. I loved the narration of the audiobook. I feel like the narrator's voice suited Hazel's character perfectly.

Also, (view spoiler)[I loved the way the weather was used over the course of the story with the drought revealing the long-buried secrets and then the drought continuing as more and more evidence is revealed, then the rain coming as Hazel starts having revelations about her family. A downright storm as everything comes to a head and then, after the rain saved for after the biggest reveal, as life continues. I loved that. So well done. (hide spoiler)]

This is really good so far. There's a lot of tension between Hazel and her brothers, they don't seem happy that the house was left to her. And the whole, she's not their biological sister is something I didn't see coming. And where did Jamie disappear to that she didn't pick up Skyler? And now the car found may have been Hazel's mother's car who disappeared years ago?

Ok it's super suspicious that Jamie is missing and no one is doing anything about it. And now Hazel discovered all the batteries at the bottom of the garbage can. Someone deliberately took those out, that's not good. I'm kind of convinced the brothers (or at least Caden) have something to do with everything going on.

Part 3: Chapters 20-29

This whole damn family is super suspicious, I don't trust any of them. All of them are lying to each other and all of them are keeping secrets. And why does no one care that Jamie is gone expect for Hazel? I don't get it. And now the revelation that her dad was responsible for his first wife's death, assuming Roy is telling the truth.

Part 4: Chapters 30-36

Damn so it seems Roy told the truth about what their dad did to his first wife but he was the one who killed Hazel's mom. And he blackmailed Perry for all those years. I'm glad Hazel was able to stop Roy, swimming out into the lake like that was smart. I'm glad Jamie was ok too. Overall I really liked this one.
