Okay, I read it again. Fortunately that was a book I considered a classic, so I kept it on my shelf. I thought the writing was beautiful, but there was too much of it. Fitzgerald was definitely in awe of his own writing style, because there is a lot of descriptions and moralizing that repeats themselves in different ways.

The bottom line is that money cannot buy you love, but sometimes it can buy people and it won’t matter if there’s love. I did not enjoy it for the second time, because I read to make myself happy or to elevate my blood pressure a little and this book did neither.

This is why I leave book club. I am the only one who ever puts forth discussion after I read a book that I didn’t want to read.
