why am i so confused after the ending of fourth wing?

I don’t know if it’s because I was exhausted while reading but who is the real enemy at hand? I’m going to start Iron Flame tonight and I’m sure I’ll get answers but I just feel like I’m confused on the new setting that was apparently “burnt to the ground” and what the revolution is for?

So essentially the government of Navarre (where Basgiath is) has kept hidden the fact that there are venin and wyverns (dark magic). They have wards to protect against these things, but territories outside of the wards are left unprotected. The previous rebellion (led by Xaden’s dad) was a fight to leave control of Navarre- presumably so they can help fight the unprotected from the venin. This rebellion failed though is still being carried on by some of the children of the previous rebellion and Brennan.
