Drace (dracenines) | 7569 comments There are a number of issues to clean up with the book Operation Paperclip by Annie Jacobsen. Running down the Editions page in order.

1. All Editions

- The Original Title is listed as just Operation Paperclip. It needs to be the full title, which is Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program that Brought Nazi Scientists to America

===

2. US Hardcover Edition: Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program that Brought Nazi Scientists to America (ISBN 9780316221047)

- This edition is mistakenly labeled as Large Print. This isn’t the Large Print edition. That needs to be removed from the Editions field.

===

3. US Kindle Edition: Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program that Brought Nazi Scientists to America (ASIN B00BAXFBI2)

- This edition is labeled as Large Print. There is no such thing as a Large Print ebook, Kindle or otherwise. This needs to be removed from the Editions field.

===

4. US Paperback Edition: Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program that Brought Nazi Scientists to America (ISBN 9780316221030)

- The cover art is really low-quality and has serious compression artifacting. I have asked other librarians previously and been told that updating a book’s cover art to a more high-quality version is fine if it’s from an accepted source (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...), so better-quality cover art for the paperback is available here from the publisher’s website: https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/wp-...

- The description is from the hardcover version. The correct description is as follows, transcribed from the back of the paperback:

In the chaos following World War II, some of the greatest spoils of Germany’s resources were the Third Reich’s scientific minds. The U.S. government secretly decided that the value of these former Nazis’ knowledge outweighed their crimes and began a covert operation, code-named Paperclip, to allow them to work in the United States without the public’s full knowledge.

Drawing on exclusive interviews with dozens of Paperclip family members, colleagues, and interrogators, and with access to German archival documents (including papers made newly available by direct descendants of the Third Reich’s ranking members), files obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, and lost dossiers discovered in government archives and at Harvard University, Annie Jacobsen follows more than a dozen German scientists through their postwar lives and into one of the most complex, nefarious, and jealously guarded government secrets of the twentieth century.

5. UK Kindle Edition: Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program that Brought Nazi Scientists to America (ASIN B010PA4UOG)

- Once again, there is no such thing as a large print Kindle edition. This needs to be removed from the Editions field.

===

6. International Edition(?): Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program to Bring Nazi Scientists to America (ISBN 9780316277440)

- I can find no publisher website listing this edition, only secondhand Amazon sellers. However, the publication date needs to be set to either just 2014 or February 11, 2014, because the publisher would not have released an international edition of a book over a month before it even released in its home country.

===

7. US Ebook Edition: Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program that Brought Nazi Scientists to America (ISBN 9780316221054)

- The ISBN-10 0316221058 also needs to be listed as the ASIN to prevent the Goodreads bot from screwing up and assigning it to another edition.

===

8. UK CD Audiobook Edition: Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program that Brought Nazi Scientists to America (ISBN 9781619691537)

- The publication date is incorrect. It should be February 27, 2014.

- The page count is incorrect. It should be 20.

- The cover art is incorrect and taken from the paperback edition. Correct cover art from the publisher’s website is available here: https://www.hachette.co.uk/wp-content...

===

9. Large Print Edition: Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program That Brought Nazi Scientists to America (ISBN 9780316239820)

- The cover art is incorrect. Correct cover art is available here: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/6...

- The page count is incorrect. I looked at the copy my local library has, and the numbering stops at 813.

===

10. Unknown Digital Audiobook Edition: Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program that Brought Nazi Scientists to America (ISBN 9781478981923)

- This edition appears to be out of print, but it still has ISBN numbers. 147898192X needs to be added as both its ISBN-10 and ASIN to prevent the Goodreads bot from causing issues.

===

11. Library Edition CD Audiobook: Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program to Bring Nazi Scientists to America (ISBN 9781478981909)

- The page count is missing. It should be 20.

- The cover art is incorrect and taken from the paperback edition. Correct cover art is here: https://dsxuu8etcj8kw.cloudfront.net/...

===

12. Current Digital Audiobook Edition: Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program that Brought Nazi Scientists to America (ISBN 9781619691544)

- The ISBN-10 161969154X also needs to be set as the ASIN.

- The publisher is incorrect. It should be Hachette Audio.

- The page count is missing. It should be 20.

- The language is missing. It should be English.

- The cover art is missing. Available here: https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/wp-...

===

13. MP3 CD Audiobook Edition: Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program to Bring Naziscientists to America (ISBN 9781478981916)

- The title has a typo. “Nazi Scientists” needs to be two words.

- The publisher is incorrect. It should be Hachette Book Group.

- The page count is incorrect. It should be 20.

- The description is incorrect. It should be as follows:

The explosive, dark secrets behind America's post–World War II science programs from the author of the New York Times bestseller Area 51

In the chaos following World War II, some of the greatest spoils of Germany's resources were the Third Reich's scientific minds. The US government secretly decided that the value of these former Nazis' knowledge outweighed their crimes and began a covert operation code-named Paperclip to allow them to work in the United States without the public's full knowledge. DESCRIPTION:
The “remarkable” story of America's secret post-WWII science programs (The Boston Globe), from the New York Times bestselling author of Area 51.

In the chaos following World War II, the U.S. government faced many difficult decisions, including what to do with the Third Reich's scientific minds. These were the brains behind the Nazis' once-indomitable war machine. So began Operation Paperclip, a decades-long, covert project to bring Hitler's scientists and their families to the United States.

Many of these men were accused of war crimes, and others had stood trial at Nuremberg; one was convicted of mass murder and slavery. They were also directly responsible for major advances in rocketry, medical treatments, and the U.S. space program. Was Operation Paperclip a moral outrage, or did it help America win the Cold War?

Drawing on exclusive interviews with dozens of Paperclip family members, colleagues, and interrogators, and with access to German archival documents (including previously unseen papers made available by direct descendants of the Third Reich's ranking members), files obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, and dossiers discovered in government archives and at Harvard University, Annie Jacobsen follows more than a dozen German scientists through their postwar lives and into a startling, complex, nefarious, and jealously guarded government secret of the twentieth century.

In this definitive, controversial look at one of America's most strategic, and disturbing, government programs, Jacobsen shows just how dark government can get in the name of national security.
