I agree Petra. This is a very interesting family! Which is part of the reason why I feel so disappointed that the author changed so much of the history in this story. This is a basically forgotten family from our history, and now they will mainly be remembered in a false way, as most people will read just this book (a best seller) and not delve deeper into the real story.

I didn't find the Grimke sisters story changed, only Handful's.

I like historical fiction because it has details of the lives of people who lived in the that Era.

That is so interesting! I want to read more about that. I thought it was very sad to see how her father on his death bed explained how he abhorred slavery but unfortunately felt like he had to conform to his society. Like you said, it's amazing how diverse their feelings for racism were.
