Queer and autistic proofreader looking for work

Hello fellow writers! My name is Bo Starsky, I am a published author of queer fiction and an experienced proofreader looking for work. I have been working on both a freelance basis and with the publishers Improbable Press and Clan Destine Press for four years now. Before that I have a decade of writing and self editing experience. Being autistic and trans I can also offer sensitivity reading for stories where those topics are relevant.

As an author I know how expensive it can be to hire a proofreader or an editor so I will gladly work with you to find a payment plan that works for you. My rates are $20 USD per hour for proofreading and 25$ USD per hour for copyediting. On average I can proof a 100k word novel in 5-6 hours. For editing it’s difficult to estimate since it depends on how much work is needed to get your book being the best it can be.

Do you offer beta services, or just proofing and editing (ie, do you do reactions/inline comments?)

Do you have a per word/per 1k word cost available, rather than per hour?

Hello, I’m not sure if these other replies are bots or not but they clearly got here very fast! Yes, a beta reading is roughly the same as a copy edit based on what kind of feedback you would like. I don’t have a per 1k words cost as it’s simpler to work by the hour. If I spent say 3.5 hours on something I would not charge for 4, I would halve the cost for the half hour.

As for edits I leave comments and notes in the text using the track changes feature so you’ll be able to see everything I do and decide for yourself what you want to keep or discard.
