Help for new authors - book required?

A single book wouldn't fit all the information, and the publishing world change so fast I believe it's best to stick to online resources. I suggest you subscribe to a forum like Absolute Writer (AW).
Also, start thinking about what you prefer :
* Find an agent, who will hopefully manage to get you published with one of the big houses. This is the long road.
* Submit directly to publishers. This might be dangerous, because very few of the big names accept unagented (and new) authors so you are at the mercy of smaller, less scrupulous people.
* Self-publish. You have complete control of your books, but it's really a lot of work.
Again AW, can help you with that.
Pieces of advice :
- Don't pay for reviews. Blog Tours are not what they used to be anymore either.
- Don't pay for followers on Social Media. Most are fake and will disappear or get block.
- Find a good editor. It is worth the investment.
- Be patient!

David Gaughran's website is a great idea.
I listen to writing and self-publishing podcasts. They've been a great help to me. If you listen to enough of them and often enough, themes start to come through. Here's my favorite 3. All with long backlists...
* The writers routine with dan simpson
* The creative penn with Joanna penn
* The self publishing show with mark dawson and james blatch (this has gone a bit downhill in recent times - I think they've been a bit distracted with other parts of their business). Their annual conference is coming up in London. It's a really worthwhile conference. They also sell affordable online tickets.
Hope this helps

can anyone recommend a book or books that details the complex pathway new author might tread on their journey to getting books published and marketed efficiently. I came into authorship extremely naively (probably not alone in this) and of course still learning everyday but so wish I had a text that signposted me to things about agents, eBooks versus paper, marketing and author page design, genuine review sites as opposed to paid for review and where to find useful and generally unbiased help ideally from people in the publishing business. Does this mythical white whale exist or is anyone planning/working on such a tome?
