E.K. Frances | 9 comments You need to get through the first couple of chapters - they are a bit boring - and then it picks up. The other books are much better than the first one imho so even if you don't like it you should push through as then you'll get to read all the good ones.

Harry Potter is my favourite series (still, not just in childhood.) The third book is my favourite book too :)

Cheyenne (cheysanders) | 12 comments The entire Harry Potter series is such a comfort series for me. I freaking love it all. Reading it as an adult or even as an older teen, you have to go into it remembering that it's a childrens book initially, but as you keep reading the series and you watch the main characters grow up, it gets more and more adult-like.

Morgan Rose | 89 comments I’d say it’s a classic, however, I wish I didn’t watch the movies before reading the books. Or at least tried to get through the books when I was a kid.

E.K. Frances | 9 comments I didn't like the movies, but I had already read the books. You'll probably be OK doing it the other way around.

Maggie (harrypotter8) | 30 comments I love it. It's my favorite book in the series.

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments I tried to read Harry Potter some 24+ years ago, but compared with Enid Blyton's Adventure series and Famous Five serious I found it too tame. Not much going on. I just couldn't get into it. So I only read the first 100 or so pages of volume 1, then gave up.

Later I watched the movies and realized that magic just isn't for me.

Jessica Spinelli | 13 comments Harry Potter is one of the biggest nostalgic things from my childhood. I owned all of the books but as a kid, I liked the idea of reading more than my ADHD self like to actually read so I pretended lol I watched the movies and when I was old enough to appreciate reading, I reread them. JK Rowling has such a cool imagination and her writing style is really good.

Annemarie | 46 comments I enjoyed the entire series. Read all of the books then bought the DVD boxed set of the movies. It's definitely not just for kids.
