message 57: by dianne (new)

dianne | 3 comments Yes, I read one hard cover book and one on my Kindle at the same time. I try to pick two really different plots so that they are easy to keep straight.

message 58: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay Kuiper (lindper) | 1 comments I historically haven't read multiple books at a time, but since reading 3-4 books simultaneously (some physical books, some audiobooks), I've really enjoyed it! It helps me streamline my reading schedule and I get to draw connections between the books that I otherwise wouldn't.

message 59: by Cari (new)

Cari Martinez | 2 comments Yes. Different platforms different genres. I have my historical fantasy novels which I love. I storyline that teaches me history in a fun immersive way. And honestly it’s my favorite genre so I don’t necessarily go looking for a particular epoch.

I’m in a book club for professional reading so whatever that book is. And since we meet up every two weeks I’m always interested in talking about what I learned and connecting dots from all of our collective knowledge and experiences in the book discussion.

And then I always have about 2 non fiction that are slow burners. Often time it’s to understand the political status quo, international relations, religion mythology or if something I learned in one of my novels piqued my interest. Sometimes I read it slow sometimes fast. I pick it up depending on my mood. It’s all a puzzle and every book brings a piece or reiterates something you knew in a different light. I find I read more when I have variety versus forcing to finish a single book.

Also there are times you can read two books simultaneously and gain much knowledge from the two opposing (or similar) pov. For example reading the classic Jane eyre at the same time I read Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers was so interesting. One book has the MMP as the hard to love stubborn person that the female character falls for while the other the roles reverse. How does society treat that? Do we see the male character that falls in love as weak and the female as strong etc.

message 60: by Zuha (new)

Zuha | 6 comments Yup, many at a time.
A couple audiobooks usually too but not as many as physical or kindle books as I don't spend a lot of time listening and I have to return them to the library.

Aussie (unknown_mysteries_bookdragon) | 10 comments always

message 62: by Jo (new)

Jo | 1 comments Yes, following what seems to be the trend with people, I also have usually about 3 going. With quite different feel or genre so I can select based on my mood.

message 63: by CBear (new)

CBear | 7 comments yes absolutely
I always say i'm just going to read one book at a time but I end up alternating between up to like four books at a time and then get confused at why it takes me weeks to finish a 300-page book 😭

message 64: by Eli (new)

Eli | 59 comments Yep! Usually im reading 1-2 books for fun and 1-2 for school.

message 65: by Jessie (new)

Jessie McElwee | 2 comments Generally I read at least two books at a time. Sometimes I can do more than that but it’s never less than that.

message 66: by Leyla (new)

Leyla | 1 comments currently reading two (:

message 67: by ✨Shay✨ (new)

✨Shay✨ | 1 comments I am usually reading 3 books at the same time.

An audio book.that I listen to while i’m in the shower, driving, cooking or cleaning.

A book I read with my boyfriend for our book club.

And a book that I read while I am teleworking or in the office. This book is usually an E-book.

message 68: by Lily (new)

Lily Mullen | 1 comments I usually read about two books at a time depending on what one I like more than I usually finish that and continue the other. Gives variation to my reading palette.

message 69: by Laura (last edited Apr 21, 2024 07:29AM) (new)

Laura Green | 4 comments I am almost always reading multiple books at a time. It's easier to keep track when the stories aren't overly similar. For me, it depends on the mood I'm in, both when choosing the story and the medium (audio vs nook/kindle vs physical book).

message 70: by AK (new)

AK | 4 comments nope. I can't concentrate this way. I need to give all my attention to the book I'm reading so that I can understand the story, world, and the characters

message 71: by Derek (new)

Derek Ens | 19 comments I'm way too ADHD to try reading more than one book at a time haha

message 72: by mackenzie (new)

mackenzie (mackkk_m) | 8 comments I currently am for the first time. I have ADHD and OCD, so I didn’t think I’d be successful with it, but it’s going well. One of the books is fantasy, the other is a self-help book. I think it’s going so great because there’s no overlap in content whatsoever!

message 73: by Gyan (new)

Gyan K Often read two at a time. One in the car and the other at home. It find it is better if the two books are of different genres otherwise things can get confusing.

message 74: by Ash (new)

Ash (ashreadbooks) | 3 comments Initially, when I got back into reading last year, I would focus on one book at a time. it's fine if the book is around 100-300 pages or shorter. but once it gets longer than that it gets a little harder to concentrate on one. so, I've picked up the habit of reading multiple books at the same time. currently reading 4

message 75: by Miranda (new)

Miranda Doyle | 4 comments I used to and idk hoe because now I get the details confused

message 76: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Hawkins | 27 comments I haven't so far but I am going to start. I just started a new job and I am going to listen to audiobooks while I work but when I am home I want to read a physical book so I will have 2 going at once!

message 77: by Piotr (new)

Piotr L | 22 comments I try not to. But when I do, it's usually either two different medium types, or two different languages, to keep them separated.

message 78: by Monica (new)

Monica Tamas (theinterested) | 1 comments Paege wrote: "I have only ever read one book and finished it before moving on to another. I feel like I would get very confused if I read more than one at once but its also something that seems much more enjoyab..."

Same here. I use to read a book at a time. Same reasons

message 79: by Wyetha (new)

Wyetha (wyesreads) | 228 comments Absolutely…currently reading two. Murder Your Employer and It Came From The Closet

message 80: by Micaylah (new)

Micaylah | 52 comments It honestly depends.
I am currently, because one of them is a big YA fantasy, and so I need a break of it every so often, so I usually start a second book that is either Horror or Mystery.

message 81: by SW (new)

SW | 7 comments I very rarely read two physical books at once. They have to be really different genres for me to do that. However I do almost always have one physical and one audiobook at the same time. Right now I'm reading Those Who Hunt The Night, and I'm listening to The Will of the Many.

message 91: by Madison (new)

Madison Hall (madison_p_hall) | 18 comments Yes, unless I have the time to sit with one book through and through. My book club friends don't understand, but to me it is like watching anything else before you finish a TV series.

I can watch a movie while I am still half way through Grey's Anatomy without losing my place.

message 92: by Wyetha (new)

Wyetha (wyesreads) | 228 comments Absolutely…I’m reading Mary: An Awakening of Terror and audiobook and My Heart Is A Chainsaw by Stephen Graham the paperback.

message 94: by Martin (new)

Martin Taylor | 3 comments I am usually in the midst of several books (6 or so). I jump between them depending on mood and which one is closest. I do have a focus problem, particularly with my hobbies (wife says I have too many).

message 99: by Nat_G (new)

Nat_G | 72 comments sometimes I just read 1 before moving to another, and sometimes I can read up to 3 and switch between them depending on my mood, but the plots have to be different, otherwise I get confused
