Arlene (aradasky) | 4 comments I and several author friends run contests such as the one here, http://www.radasky.com/Site/CONTEST.html in many forms. Has anyone else done this and what are your thoughts about contests?

Patrick (horrorshow) | 33 comments I am a bit leery of contests like USA booknews because even though they were generous in allowing the use of their website to promote my book, I only got like fourteen people on my webstite progressofhorrornovel.com. But at least it's somewhere to start because many so called respectable ones tend to go out of their way to overlook self published novels. Right now, it seemed the best route is to build a good relationships with readers on goodreads and try and get them to check out my profile.

My friends and I are running contests that are usually developed ourselves and run on our won websites, as we are self published. What I have noticed lately is that we seem to only be drawing those who are familiar with our books. I know I can give several books away here on GoodReads, but I was wondering what the feeing would be if I offered a contest as I contacted GoodReads members.

Rocky | 10 comments Book reviews, contests, clubs and other promotional gimmicks all have and play a part in getting it out.I have this old fashion idea of opening the trunk of my and filling it with my books then going on a meet and greet signing tour. The book stores, tea rooms, festivals etc. These and other related enterprises need a perk to their business as well as you the author and above all it's working.

That is what i would like to do and actually have done in ways. I have gone with a friend to several Highland Games and sold my book. However, I am not set up for credit cards and that seems to be the way most people would like to buy, me included. :(
