I think the first I can remember reading and completely understanding has to be The Little Prince - I still adore this story by the way!
excluding things like diary of the wimpy kid or maybe a few Michael Morpurgo books, I'd say my first was one of us is lying and it is a book I still love to this day
I'm pretty sure mine is keeper of the lost cities first book (I'm still trying to read the series but flashback is to boring
I learned how to read using comic books, specifically Superman and Spiderman :) My dad would bring them home from the BX (they gave away free ones) and the pictures and onomatopoeia significantly helped me learn how to read and sound things out! I’m dyslexic, so comic books were amazing help!!!

The Brothers Grimm fairytales, Robinson Cruoe, Tom Sawyer.
the first one I remember is The Island of the Blue Dolphins. it always has a special place in my heart
I learned to read on Sherlock Holmes at 4 and I remember those just fine. I have been reading since.
I think mine was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and a whole lot of other Roald Dahl books
Not the 1st book I read, but what I started my reading journey with last year was Verity by Colleen Hoover
guys I'm sorry I should have been more clear by babies picture books I meant like the books that only have pictures and then one word or two in a page.so if you started with comics or with teen books like the diary of a wimpy kid that's great!
it's funny cause my first book was Mockingjay (i hadn't even watched the movies at that point lol), I read it in 2019 and been in love with reading since
Deep Dark and Dangerous by Mary Downing Hahn as a kid. Her books got me so hooked on reading.
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland when I was 9; annnnnd a lifelong reader/dreamer was born

The first book I probably read was The Rainbow Fairies.. though I wouldn't remember. I remember seeing those 1-2-3 learning books, I had a BOLT copy.
The first book I remember reading in regards to school was Animal Farm or Fever.
The first book that I chose to read and got me back into reading for fun, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder.
I’m sure about the first book I read, but I think the first novel I actually read myself was Wild Blue, I’m not 100% sure but I remember taking turns with my father reading it in my old bedroom at night.
Sweet Valley High or Nancy Drew. Can't remember which drew my attention first.
I think my first book was probably the Rainbow Fairies, but the book that got me back into reading was You've Reached Sam by Dustin Thao.
Mine was “We Were Liars” by e. Lockhart. I know it's liked and disliked by many but it Will forever be a fire star read for me😁
a version of the bible for children when I was 7 (I'm an atheist). my teacher made me read it and I read it like 10 times for a few months.
The first proper book I ever read was Twilight by Stephanie Meyer when I was 11 (my autism loved that one) and the first book I read that sparked my love for books after a 3 year reading slump was A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson in 2022.

Last year, I read the hunger games, and I loved it so much!! It was an amazing book, and afterwards I read a bunch of other dystopian (divergent, 5th wave, Shatter me series etc) and now I am OBSESSED
I started with comic books my uncle left around, my first actual book I remember reading was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,after that I read everything I could get my hands on
The first books were the Sherlock Holmes Novels and the Harry Potter series together with the Goosebumps series. I remember these days fondly, sittting in a library, just reading books and having nothing much to do
I don't know really remember which was the first book i read but red white royal blue and it ends with us bought me back to reading again
Mine was Around The World in 80 Days.
After reading that book I was hooked on reading.
