Reading Mouse (readingmouse_21) | 123 comments I prefer 3-5 books in a series not too little and not so many that you get bored. What about you?

Artemis~Ebonie (Inactive) | 65 comments 3 since I know 2 will just make me sad that there's not more but if I go to 4 I'll most likely get bored. Honestly, though I prefer stand-alones.

yeah, same. if there are more than 5 books, I usually get discouraged to start that series itself. But if has a very intriguing synopsis, then I will power through how many ever books the series has.

Rori | 99 comments if it is an amazing series then I don't mind how many books they have the more the better!
but if it was a bad one 2-3 books is enough.
honestly if I don't like the first book I would not bother buying the rest of it.

message 5: by Tanja (new)

Tanja | 315 comments It depends on how much I like the world building and the story. But I prefer 3, especially in genres like fantasy. Often if the world is to complex I loose focus and at this point I'm discouraged.

message 6: by Piotr (new)

Piotr L | 22 comments Doesn't really matter. Poor series will not withstand my 50 pages rule, and a good one can go forever. The longest I enjoyed so far was Ziemiański's Achaja series (and it's spin-offs). Another quite long one I completed was "The Expanse" by James S. A. Corey.

message 7: by Kar (new)

Kar a trilogy I'd better but if I went longer I would do five or six

☆EmilyEverAfter☆ (emilyeverafter) | 102 comments I agree 3 is the perfect amount.

Robert Robertson (trk06) | 52 comments 3 is the ideal 5 at a push

Bailey Brown | 4 comments 20+ if the author can keep it lively and not build up so much emotional baggage that it becomes a convoluted mess.

The Dresden Files is terrific, for example.

Kylin Swearingen | 55 comments 3! Trilogies are the best because you have the first book that’s the classic, the second book that’s either the worst or the best, and the third book that ties it all together.

message 15: by Richaar (new)

Richaar | 133 comments I feel like 3-5 is the best number of books in a series. It depends on which series. I sometimes wish that some trilogies had some more books (the Once upon a Broken Heart series).
I personally prefer to read trilogies, though. This way, a series is not too short and not too long.

message 16: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 26 comments A trilogy will do for me, they're perfect. The maximum I could stick with in a single stretch would be 5.

message 17: by Miranda (new)

Miranda Doyle | 4 comments 3, I'm less likely to start a series if it has 5 books in it nowadays because that's longer its going to keep me from my other TBR books. Which silucks because I'm sure I'm missing out on good ones.

message 18: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Gott (stephanieannegott) | 12 comments I think it depends on the page count of the book and how enthralling the first in the series is. If it hits then I'm more than happy to keep going even if its got more than 10 but if its an ok read, it depends if I'm interested enough to keep going.

message 19: by Cleo (new)

Cleo Klobucher (pinkies43) | 3 comments I usually like three books.

message 20: by Jesy (new)

Jesy Joy (jesyjoy) | 92 comments depends on how much I love the character.

Kylee (kyleeraereader) | 47 comments Reading Mouse wrote: "I prefer 3-5 books in a series not too little and not so many that you get bored. What about you?"

I think 3-5 is good too! Unless it's an amazing series, then keep them coming lol

message 23: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (brithebookbabe) | 59 comments 3-4. I get bored after a while with the content if it is too much. Unless it is really good. Such as Harry Potter. I just need closure in a series. ♡

message 24: by Ineffable7980x (new)

Ineffable7980x | 47 comments I think a duology is actually ideal. Not everything has to be a trilogy.

message 25: by Sam (new)

Sam K (zutara123) | 251 comments I think 3-5 is a good amount

message 26: by Antonella (new)

Antonella depends on many things. What's genre is it... does it benefit the story and characters, or is money grab by the popularity ... sometimes I find three too much, and sometimes ten is too little ...

message 27: by Malissa (new)

Malissa (malissa1578) | 163 comments I think that depends on the potential of the book and characters. Some are great as standalones, some as duology, some as a trilogy and etc.

message 28: by Janice Dudley (new)

Janice Dudley | 31 comments Two if it’s the same couple but any length if it’s about different couples. So long as it’s the same or similar timeline. Currently I’m reading book 4 in a 9 book series and it has kept me totally engaged as it’s about different characters. Rescued from Ruin by Elisa Braden

message 29: by Irene (new)

Irene | 9 comments 2-3. Anymore and I get bored (attention span ugh)

message 30: by Isabella (new)

Isabella | 8 comments I prefer books are standalone, but if I really really want multiple books, probably 2. I remember reading certain duologies and being upset there weren’t more. But I think more than 3 is exhausting. I want to finish TMI and AGGTM series but they’re just so long I don’t think I’ll ever get through it

message 31: by Arden (new)

Arden Lynn (Taylor's Version) | 9 comments I say at least 4 or 5. If I really enjoy the series I'm reading though the more the merrier.

message 32: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Carpenter (cherryc) | 6 comments 6-8

message 33: by Ashley (new)

Ashley R | 61 comments 3-5 if the world-building is small/more familiar. 4-7 if the world-building and action are intricate.

message 34: by Rimi (new)

Rimi | 65 comments 3 as it will be easier to keep track of it .

Thea's reading corner (poorbabyhighlord) | 10 comments If it's a good series no amount is good enough I wanna read it forever and never stop

message 36: by Reader (new)

Reader | 35 comments 3-5

message 37: by Evelyn (new)

Evelyn (evelyntheshadowsinger) | 39 comments Depends on the genre. For fantasy I’d say 5 with all the world-building and plot, but for any other genre I’d say 3 is a good amount

message 38: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (iniysa) | 149 comments Most of the time, 3. But there are several series I never want to end!

message 39: by Tarynla☾ (new)

Tarynla☾ | 80 comments Personally I'm a fan of 3 but there are some series that I wish had kept going or there are current series with many installments (like 5 or 6) and I'm not mad about it..

message 40: by Kristina (new)

Kristina Mateo (chicklassique) | 85 comments 3 or 4

message 41: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Reads (sarah_gonia) | 37 comments If it's a good series 10+

message 42: by Pauline (new)

Pauline I would say 3-6 books

message 43: by max (new)

max (wylans) | 3 comments trilogies are my favorites for sure, I'd say 5 at most before it starts to feel overwhelming

message 44: by Jenna (new)

Jenna (jenna_readss) | 7 comments 3 to 5 is perfect

message 45: by Mostly (new)

Mostly Books | 70 comments mostly three books but If it takes more books to complete the series with any missing polt holes. I'm up for it!

message 46: by Callista (new)

Callista | 17 comments I love a trilogy as much as the next girl, but I think duologies deserve more love. 2-4 is what I like. If I'm really invested in the series, then maybe 5-7, but I'd have to be really into it.

message 47: by Doris (new)

Doris (dorisb) | 104 comments For me, a series really needs to be at least 3 books. More than 5 seems like overkill - except when the series deals with completely new, but related, events. For reference, I am thinking of the 5 book Fablehaven series. I enjoyed the first three Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever books. I didn't care for the follow-up Trilogy. Some of my all time favorites are Andre Norton's "Witch World", even though the count is much higher, because the settings and characters often change, although there will be references to earlier tales.

message 48: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 9 comments Two or three. If there’s four or more, the author is just dragging it on at that point (unless the series is just absolutely AMAZING).

message 49: by Kai's (new)

Kai's Darling | 660 comments I like it when there's a rly long series, I read the throne of glass series by Sarah j mass (right?) and its 7 books (no novellas that I heard of or read) and I rly liked them! so idm as long as its as series. weather 2 or 7 idc as long as its an absolute amazing series

message 50: by Pisces51 (new)

Pisces51 | 0 comments 2 book series I have heard recommended but if you have a series that is on fire I say 12 is a good number
