Ariel Palenik(TheDayDreamingWriter) (thedaydreamingwriter) | 35 comments Hey there! My name is Ariel.. I thought today would be a fun day to compare and contrast the king of horror's books to movies conversions.

I want to know which ones you all think are the best.
Is it Misery? Is it Christine? Is it Hearts In Alantis?
I don't know. So tell me what you think.

And what do you think is the worst book to movie conversion?

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments I loved Christine... thought that the latest movie version of IT was awful.

I absolutely agree with your take on Christine.. I love that movie. The book makes me hate Marty's' friends.

Now, I can't really comment on IT. I enjoyed the first IT that came out a couple of years ago. Haven't seen the second yet.
I can't really compare it to the original though, since the last time I saw the original, was a really long time ago, so I don't remember it.

Thank you for sharing..

Heather (mushshroomss) | 22 comments I think The Green Mile was done really well. The actors all captured the parts perfectly

Pisces51 Well...one could argue that it is not a book to movie adaptation (since King wrote the screen adaptation for it to be a film). Storm Of The Century has my vote.

Thank you for sharing! I haven't heard of that one.

You know I remember seeing this movie years ago when I was little, but I don't remember it.
My Mom though got me to buy the book, and I gotta say, it was definetly heart wrenching.
I hope to watch the movie real soon..

Thank you for sharing..

James | 14 comments The original Salem's Lot is a classic. The Shining was the worst.

Nick | 24 comments Doctor Sleep was a great adaptation that King stood behind. It’s both an adaptation to the book and a sequel to the Kubrick film that melds the two beautifully and corrects a lot of what King disliked about the original film as well.

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Stand by Me was great, as was Shawshank Redemption. Never saw Apt Pupil, but I hear that it was terrific as well.

Rusty Berr | 5 comments "The Body" ("Stand by me") was very well done.

Julia | 224 comments There have been some great titles mentioned here. My favourites are:
- Misery
- The Green Mile
- The Shawshank Redemption
- Carrie
(not in order..!!)

message 19: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I think the best adaptations of his work are those that have little or no supernatural in them. Cujo, Stand By Me. Misery, The Shawshank Redemption, Hearts in Atlantis, and Gerald's Game. But I love a lot of others despite knowing they are cheezy. The original Carrie, Christine, (original 'Salem's Lot, It (original), The Stand and The Langoliers.
