Lea | 9 comments I've heard so many different oppinions about annotating the own books & I myself do it with some books when I feel like it or I see a special quote I wanna remember.
What do you all think?

message 2: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 13 comments Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I love it when people write in books (only with a pencil though). I love sharing my thoughts and ideas on certain parts, and love reading others reactions. I'm not a huge fan of tabs however, I tried that once and hated it.

Bellaaa (jeremiah's version!) No! I like books that are perfect, not ruined in any way

Richaar | 133 comments I like to annotate my books. I don't annotate them all, though. I usually do it for romance books. It makes me enjoy the book more. I like to sometimes look through my annotations to remember how much I loved the book. It makes the book so personal. Also, I love the aesthetic! It's so beautiful to see other people's annotated books. And it's so beautiful when the annotations match the book.

candycorn | 3 comments I only annotate books or textbooks I read for school ngl 😭

Julia~ | 13 comments I have never tried annotating but it the idea is great. You have literally a real connection with the book if you write your own thoughts in it.I would really love to try it out!I am always amazed if I see annotated books with drawing-I mean it looks so gorgeous

Kestrel B. (kestrelb) | 4 comments I love finding second hand books with annotations, but I grew up around purists who wanted their books perfectly preserved- not loved and lived in. It's a real struggle for me, even with my own collection, so I grabbed some highlighter tape and clear lined sticky notes to temporarily annotate. A bonus I discovered is that the tape doesn't make the ink bleed like markers! Downfall is that it's just more plastic crap.

Laila (i3hbmwdar) | 47 comments I love it!!!

message 9: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessacumberlandcountypa) I don't annotate but I like to read books where those before me did.

message 10: by Raz (new)

Raz | 11 comments I like second hand books because sometimes you find someone's little notes from the past, I don't annotate books myself though (although I do leave little tabs on my favourite poems when I read poetry collections)

message 11: by Millie (new)

Millie (emily24i) | 12 comments I love it when I find annotated books, but I myself annotate very few. I prefer to read through, which may be why I love finding annotated books

message 12: by Tanja (new)

Tanja | 315 comments I just annotate books and papers when it is for my degree. Otherwise, I don't. I don't like writing in my books. It does ruin a book for me

message 13: by Ineffable7980x (new)

Ineffable7980x | 47 comments I annotated a ton when I was in school. Now that I read solely for pleasure, I don't do it at all. What would be the point?

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I annotate any text that I am studying. If I am reading for pleasure I usually don't but there have been times where I want to remember a quote and I have annotated it

Michael (fisher_of_men) | 41 comments If you're good at it (making notes), by all means, have at it.

message 16: by Inês (new)

Inês | 1 comments I love making notes, it makes me feel like I read the book. Plus it makes it easier if I want to consult some parts later. But I only do it with a pencil.

message 17: by ♤Lizzy♤ (new)

♤Lizzy♤ (Inactive) | 200 comments When I can and when it's REALLY good fluff (Which is all I read lol) or important parts of the story that I should remember any time any where

message 18: by Gypsy (new)

Gypsy (ignited_red_queen) | 25 comments I want to annotate books but if I don't overall like the book I'd hate to have it marked up, so I started purchasing removable highlighter tapes and notes this way if I end up wanting to resell or donate my book it doesn't have any markings. I save the writing for books I have reread well at least that is the plan.

message 19: by Lance (new)

Lance | 48 comments I'm fine with it if it's someone's own book but when people annotate library books it makes me pissed (just recently got an annotated library book and it makes me so mad)

message 20: by Bruna (new)

Bruna Galamba | 45 comments Never! Let the book be perfect the way it is. Let it look and feel like it's still in the book store.

message 21: by Maria Reads (new)

Maria Reads (mariuskyw) | 19 comments I love annotations, I don't write on the book but I do highlight it

message 22: by Shelby (new)

Shelby Kay | 29 comments I’ve only annotated 1 1/2 books so far and it’s been months since I annotated anything but I love it. I love doing it to books I truly love and want to spend more time with without having to really reread it. I love diving into a book and highlighting or marking parts I love or foreshadowing or my thoughts. I even will add post it’s with definitions or explanations for things I didn’t get 100% and it’s a nice way to really sit with a story and give it your full attention but I don’t always feel comfortable marking my books so if it’s a favorite and I can get another to replace it I will without hesitation. Books that are out of my comfort zone or might be complex I might add tabs or post it’s (so I can remove them) so I can keep the story straight. I annotated TSH by Donna Tartt for reference and mostly I added translations, background info on topics touched on and highlighted my favorite quotes or just things I’d like to go back to at some point. I’m currently rereading TOG bc my dad is reading it and he asks many questions so I might annotate it to remember key points and also to keep myself in check so I don’t accidentally spoil something when he asks his million questions after a few chapters lol

message 23: by Gyan (new)

Gyan K I only annotate nonfiction/text books. I do not mark any physical books that I read for pleasure. I do annotate audiobooks and ebooks occasionally. To each his/her own.

message 24: by Cassondra (new)

Cassondra (howeverlong) | 3 comments I love to annotate. I love to reread and sometimes you just want to read specific parts. I usually don’t on the first pass tho. Also if I end up not liking the book I can still resell it lol

Cassandra 🍁☕️📚 (blondie2611) | 151 comments I only annotated my textbooks in college. It helped me with studying. Now I can’t bring myself to annotate my personal book collection.
