I'd say the Kate Daniels books by Ilona Andrews? The romance takes a few books to happen (though the tension is there as they learn about each-other). Then they have the most realistic relationship, with ups and downs, miscommunications (sometimes with disastrous results) and a growling found family + eventually additional kids.
I'm assuming the relationship is written so well because Ilona Andrews is a wife-and-husband team.
