Chip Walter | 3 comments Hi,

I am an author and several years ago I created and added a series of a books that were serials entitled The Misadventures of Ernest Fletcher Quick. I'd like to remove all of these from my Goodreads catalogue because I will later be adding the full book from beginning to end. This new book will replace the serialized versions that now reside on Goodreads. Can you help me with this?

If there is someone else I should contact to arrange this, please let me know.

Many thanks,

Chip Walter

Tami (tamicarvallo) | 6987 comments Hello, Goodreads does not remove out-of-print editions. A book's absence from retailer sites or being out-of-print doesn't negate its existence. When a new edition is released the old editions remain. Goodreads functions as a comprehensive database.

Chip Walter | 3 comments Hi Tami,

Thanks you for getting back to me. I am confused. I wrote the book. And in this case different chapters of the book were serialized so the continued availability of the old versions will confuse readers because the new version of the book will have the same title, probably the same cover. Can you at least suppress it? Or archive it? This is in the interest of the readers.

Tami (tamicarvallo) | 6987 comments I understand your concern, but it's important to consider that individuals who read those serialized editions in the past may not have had a Goodreads account at the time but might create one in the future and wish to mark those editions as read. These editions are currently available on Amazon, and even if they're eventually taken down, they were accessible at one point, and people did read them, as evidenced by the ratings. It's crucial to think about accommodating these readers. One solution could be to include a note in the book's description of the new edition, clarifying that it was previously published as chapters/episodes or volumes.

Chip Walter | 3 comments Hmmm. I see where you're coming from. Only a handful of readers read these versions. And it was years ago. I doubt they would care, but I suppose you have to be consistent, though as the author I would have thought I could remove it. Unlike my other books it was self-published.) I will be removing the book from Amazon. And I will make a note in the old editions to reduce confusion when the new and final version comes out. Thanks.
