Dogs list found in Goodreads Browse > Lists

I recently looked at the lists in Goodreads and searched by dogs. Then made a list of all the ones that seemed to only be for dogs. I thought it would be a good topic to discuss. What are your thoughts? Have you looked at them or used them?

Oh my goodness, you've been busy, Steve! :O What a breakdown! And as an avid Listopia user, I hope it encourages other people to use this handy feature - you can add books to lists, vote for books already on the list to move them closer to the top, or simply browse to find new books which may be of interest to you. (I'd personally like to encourage everyone to cross-reference their books as well as they can, especially the more obscure ones, to help other bibliophiles find new good reads). ;)

I have questions on the lists there-
Do some seem to be 'most well known dog book' lists?
Do you laugh or cheer for the lists where dogs (or pets) don't die in the end?
Do you have any favorite lists in the group?

What I do find interesting is, I go to the list creator page, and most seem to have not read that many dog books (based on what the reviews they have posted).

Anyway, love to hear people's thoughts on the lists and on dog books in general.

I am not familiar with Listopia at all, so thanks for these links. I was wondering how to access all those books listed, as they weren't clickable links. Navigating beyond throwing books I've read on my shelf is all new to me here on Goodreads, and I'm learning. Now that I'm retired maybe I'll have more time to play around with it (though when the weather is good I'm usually occupied outside). Thanks!

It's not very easy to navigate, so don't place any blame upon yourself if you find it confusing! :)

A quick primer for anyone reading who may need it:

See the "Browse" at the top of your screen? From there, go to 'Lists'. From the main Listopia page, there is a search field at right ("search lists").

However, rather than searching there, I highly recommend scrolling down further to the next search field below it, "search for a tag" under Browse by Tag. This tends to be much more specific and direct. When users (could be you!) create a list, they are asked to give 'tags' to index that list. So 'dog' should, hopefully, pull up all lists concerned with dogs (if the user didn't add tags, then it won't come up here).

The "search lists" field can be just as useful if searching for something very specific, i.e. Alsatians or Dachshund. It's not very helpful for more general terms, simply because of the sheer number of lists! :)

You can also scroll down on that main Listopia page and see "popular lists" (typically the least useful of all lists!), recently added lists, lists your friends have voted on, etc.

Unlike Stephen, I mostly read non-dog books (in spite of being a lover of canines!), and so I've made all kinds of general cataloguing lists. Here are just a few to give you an idea of the width and breadth of Listopia:

Holding a Sign or Placard: Covers
Foreign Born Person Moves "Home" in Fiction
Title is Graffiti
Avalanches and Landslides in Fiction
Mithras, Mithraeum, Mithrais content
(just by way of example)

There are lists for specific types of books, such as Scottish Children's Spy Thrillers, and some very general lists (many of those), like Fiction Titles Containing a First and Last Name... there's one for anything you can think of, and if you've looked and looked and can't find what you're after, please consider creating a List of your own (which is public and can be added to and voted on by any Goodreads user). ;)
