TOG or The Assassin’s Blade first?

hi everyone! i just got my hands on the TOG box set and i really want to start reading the series tomorrow but the reading order controversy is making it difficult for me to decide which to read first. please let me know your thoughts (and no spoilers please) 🥹🙏🏼💗

I started with Throne of Glass and read The Assassin’s Blade third! I really liked reading it this way. If you really would like to read everything chronologically then start with TaB. If you start with TOG you get (in my opinion) a better feel for the story and have a chance to connect with the main character before diving into her backstory.

Crown of Midnight will leave you on a cliffhanger though, so if it would bother you to go back in time after learning this, I would say do TAB first.

I really don’t think you can go too wrong here. I would recommend reading TAB before HoF though. Happy reading ◡̈

I highly recommend reading Assassin's Blade 1st. I found it better laying the foundation for the beginning before TOG takes place. I will say if you like a "prequal" after a story has been told- then read it 3rd (but as I am NOT that kinda person, I loved knowing the hows/whys BEFORE the long story begins) BUT please please please tandem read the 2 books; Empire of Storms & Tower of Dawn! Its WAY more enjoyable that way.

I would really recommend to read assassins blade first. It makes is a lot easier to understand what’s happening and it makes it ALOT more emotional.

I read assassins blade first and I felt like I was way more prepared going into the other books than I would have if I didn't. Otherwise, you would just kind of be guessing about her past AND if you don't read it first the biggest part of the plot for that book gets spoilered and you will already know how it ends.

I totally agree! I am so glad that I read assassins blade first because it added some much needed background to the motivations of certain characters and really added depth to their struggles in the first 2 books that I was able to understand.
I had a friend who really enjoyed reading the book third, which I guess is a choose your own adventure. But, I find that reading the story in chronological order lets you develop with the characters longer and understand the journey better than having to jump back in time after reading the first 2 books in the dark.

Currently going through the series myself! I can’t give too much insight since I’m only on Crown of Midnight but I read TOG first, then COM and I’ll read Assassin’s Blade next then I’ll take a small break and get back into it reading HOF, QOS and maybe tandem read EOS and TOD then break again before reading KOA.
