Thanks for your thoughts. I was thinking about self publishing at one time only because I wanted to release my fantasy in small snippets online with artwork similar to webcomic kind of thing. Not quite a graphic novel but with graphics. I just seems like a lot of indie authors in certain platforms do well like deviantart or webtoon sites. I thought to ask here because I know this is a completely different environment. I also don't doubt a lot of people crank slop out.

My mom is self-published on Amazon. Her name is Joanie Long and her books are on Goodreads as well. She sells ebook versions and physical books too. She sells them on Amazon and also out in the wild at events where she can set up a booth and sell signed copies. She also sells them at a pharmacy and a general store/restaurant near where her first book was set in NW Arkansas. She has two historical fiction books and a standalone fiction book “Ada’s Shack.” She also did three children’s books with my daughter who is now 7. She was like 4,5,& 6 yrs old and helped do the illustrations on them. I’ve read all her books and love them.
So .. I think I ran into fanfiction authors on here? Like people from deviantart? I didn't know that people looked for ratings through Goodreads on fanfiction. I'm not sure what to think or how to feel about that?
What is your guys' experience with reading indie? Any recommendations? Also what's the general quality look like?
