This book was just plain fun and exactly what I needed right now. The small town setting and the characters reminded me of the small east Texas town we lived in 35 years ago. Elner Shimfissle is 80 something years old, lives independently with her cat Sonny. Her niece Norma and husband Mackey live nearby. Her neighbors include Tot, the local hairdresser, Ruby, Verbena, and many others. Elner is one of those people that everyone in town loves and adores. She has live in Elmwood her entire life and knows everyone. One morning Elner climbs into her fig tree and is attacked by wasps, and falls off the ladder. What happens after her fall is what the rest of the book is all about. The book is humorous, there are very many laugh out loud moments. And even though it is the third book in a series, it can be read as a stand alone.
Read for the southern fiction tag for the steeplechase challenge.
