2023 Machado had elbow surgery. Started 2024 as DH. Last few games he's back at 3rd. With addition of Arraez there's rumors that HS Kim might be traded. YES we DO need pitching but I guess Preller couldn't pass on Arraez. Tonight this looks like a inspired decision as Arraez (DH'ing) is 4 for 4 as lead off hitter and Padres are ahead 8 - 0 at Arizona!

Peggyzbooksnmusic | 731 comments HS Kim is making a "statement" to not be traded. He just hit 3 run HR!

Could increase his value. Just not before they play cubs. Although cubs supposedly getting a few guys back next week. They’ve been pressing not at full strength.

To be honest, even though I really love Kim he's been struggling: defensive errors and only batting 213. I see that neither Padres or Cubs have posted their starting pitchers for upcoming series. Interesting!

Peggyzbooksnmusic | 731 comments Just checked MLB....Padres pitchers will be Darvish, Musgrove & Cease. Musgrove is having control issues.

Yes, I've been pleased with him so far!

Right now I'm very concerned about Steven Kwan, who left last night's game with hamstring tightness. He's going to have an MRI.

Peggyzbooksnmusic | 731 comments Padres have finally won 4 in a row. Free game today is Braves at Dodgers. Hoping Dodgers sweep!

I saw that happen on replay. We had the same thing happen to Trea Turner who scored from second and tore his hamstring. He is looking at 6 to 8 weeks. That is a huge loss for us both.

Just like the Twins with Royce Lewis. Looking at least another month before he can return, Hamstring injuries are so debilitating for a ball player.

message 361: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie | 2068 comments I heard about Trea Turner as well, Harold! Extremely unfortunate.

Guardians pulled together and beat the Angels today, and the Cavs won G7 in the first round of the NBA playoffs. And hubby and I planted some new flowers in the yard :) It's a good day here.

All good things must come to an end. Twins bullpen didn’t do too well today. But that was still a series win against the team with the best ERA in the league, so that’s a plus.

It was fun while it lasted!

Peggyzbooksnmusic | 731 comments Well Padres winning streak of 4 ended today. Lol! Starting pitcher Waldron & reliever Brito gave up 11 runs. Glad Dodgers swept Braves. Harold...sending good karma to Phillies over Giants!

message 365: by Harold (new)

Harold Kasselman | 19196 comments Thanks, Peggy. So far it looks like win 24 is imminent.

Peggyzbooksnmusic | 731 comments Padres starting pitcher, Musgrove, has been placed on IL with elbow inflamation. Hasn't been announced who will start Tues at Cubs.

I like that guy. He has really turned into a heck of a player.

What a crazy last 2 1/2 innings to a game. Sorry Peggy. Desperately needed that to keep pace with sleazy Brewers. Between ending and tornado warnings last night it took awhile to wind down to go to bed last night plus two games of overtime hockey. Back at it today that’s why this game is so great.

Brina; Must be so stressful living with tornado threats! Hey, followed game off & on through website. Was a close one! Right now am trying very hard not to listen on radio as we are in the process of buying a home & selling our condo. Baseball is such an addiction for me that it can be a distraction!

They don’t. They play again unless they meet in the playoffs then for sure he would start game 1 or 2.

Rangers acquired Robbie Grossman from White Sox for a minor-league pitcher. I remember him as a productive player on the Twins. Rangers needed a bat who’s decent against lefties.

Last year’s #1 pick, Paul Skenes, is being called up by the Pirates. Making his first start Saturday vs Cubs

message 376: by Brina (new)

Brina | 10264 comments Mod
I am glad I won’t be able to watch that one. Cubs are reeling. They need to make a trade for a bat and bullpen help to give the team a jolt. There’s no rule that says must wait til trade deadline to do so. You have a loaded minors so utilize it.

message 377: by Lance (new)

Lance (sportsbookguy) | 15706 comments Mod
I’ll be tuning in - I just hope they aren’t rushing him.

message 378: by Peggyzbooksnmusic (new)

Peggyzbooksnmusic | 731 comments Pleased Padres were 2 out of three with Cubs. Sorry, Brina but at least Brewers also lost yesterday.

Padres travel home & then face Dodgers at Petco. Sure hope I can find time to listen on radio as fans on both sides are enthusiastic & LOUD!

Twins win their 16th of the last 18 games . Something interesting happening is that Duran is not always coming into the game to start the 9th inning. Take tonight - Duran started the 8th because Baldelli wanted him to face Vlad Jr. The strategy worked as he had a perfect 8th. This has been the case the last week or so as Baldelli inserts Duran in the gam against the opponent’s best hitters. Doesn’t register as a save but as long as the team wins all is good

Peggyzbooksnmusic | 731 comments Fantastic pitching duel last night King vs Glasnow. Special for Arraez to get the RBI walk off bottom of ninth his first time playing at Petco as a Padre. Fans went crazy!

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12754 comments Sean Burroughs has passed away. Cause of death was cardiac arrest. He was coaching his son's Little League team at the time. Although he had a brief career in the majors he is probably best remember for his days in Little League baseball. When I saw the item at first I was thinking I sort of recognized the name but wasn't sure. Of course he was the son of Jeff Burroughs.

He played for Padres from 2002 to 2005. Sad to hear this. He was only 43.

Had two games on for awhile. While having the Twins- Blue Jays on the TV (terrible day for the Twins bullpen so far), had the Pirates-Cubs on the iPad to follow Paul Skenes’ debut. He wasn’t too bad - 4+ innings, 7 Ks 2 BB, 6 H, 3 ER (two were inherited runners scoring after relief pitcher came in.) Hit over 100 on the gun often. Thought he looked better than his box score line would indicate.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12754 comments Back in the sixties DC Comics tried a feature called Strange Sports Stories in the comic The Brave and the Bold, with three stories per issue. At one time I had all five issues. Not sure which one it was but in one issue one of the stories featured a baseball team composed of intelligent gorillas, Actually my avatar right now is the cover from that issue.

Another series win for the Twins. As for an animal, trying to remember which team had a rally squirrel. At first I thought it was the Twins, but maybe it was the Cardinals?

The Cubs actually won an extra innings game. They needed that. Mother’s Day low key here- it’s my day off and I treated it as a regular Sunday. Asked my husband for a rain check over the summer when we can eat at a restaurant in Chicago.
