As long as Mets finish last in that division I don’t care who finishes first.

I'm SO thrilled! I just watched the recap after listening to 98% of the game; last I knew, the Yankees were up by 2 in the 10th and the Guardians had managed to pull off an incredible double play between home and first, but I was resigned to a loss when I switched off the game (was in the car and arrived at my destination with things to do) - imagine my stunned delight when my dad texted in all caps that Cleveland won!! I still can't believe it lol

Happy Jackie Robinson day! I’m looking forward to all the tributes and videos that will be on later.

Inspiring day. Although you would think MLB would have at least offered Dodgers game as Free Game today.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12754 comments Tommy Pham is reportedly going to sign a minor league deal with the White Sox. The team is expected to call him up after a brief stay in the minors.

How about any game with a player wearing #42?

Just my opinion, but MLB is too greedy. As much as they bring in with just advertising revenue they can certainly afford to make all of todays games free. Oh well; end of my rant:)

They can also retire 21 and make September 15 just as important. That’s been my rant for years.

Not sure but I believe all the Jays will be wearing #42 today.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12754 comments I am surprised there hasn't been any sort of movement to make today a national holiday. Or has there been and I just missed it due to the fact I live on the other side of the border?

message 212: by Harold (new)

Harold Kasselman | 19196 comments I'm shocked that former Cub near great Ken Holtzman dies at 78. He also pitched well fit the A's.

Lance (sportsbookguy) | 15706 comments Mod
I've never heard making April 15 a national holiday. Of course, it's usually noted as Tax Day as it is the last day for filing income tax returns.

message 214: by Brina (new)

It was also Patriots Day. So 3 days in 1 today.

About Holtzman, I went to jr/sr high with his daughters. He was so humble to the point of being secretive. Once my mom called their house about a carpool for day camp and he answered like a normal person. To be fair, by the time my mom lived in Chicago, the Cubs had traded him to the A’s so she had no idea who he was. His daughters did not act like the kids of a famous person. They were grounded and everyday kids. That was a testament to him, and I’m sorry to hear of his passing.

John Sterling, long time radio voice of the Yankees, is retiring effective immediately. Not a bad gig to have until you’re 85, but honestly he should have done this several years ago

In minority. I like Stirling and Waldman. My husband is concerned games will be boring now without his home run calls but I explained that these younger guys have to grow into the role. He only listens for the homer calls so he will have to be patient.

Ashley Marie | 2068 comments Apologies to our resident Red Sox fan(s), but today's game was a lot of fun on the Cleveland side of things! Fairly certain I saw someone say they haven't played at Fenway on Marathon Day since 1998, so this was neat.

Gabriel Arias in particular seems to have made some adjustments and is making good contact the past few games. Seeing Arias + Brayan Rocchio + Tyler Freeman + Andres Gimenez in the same lineup was fun - feels like our new manager Vogt is finding ways for them all to get playing time, and with a Cleveland farm system overloaded with middle infielders, that's saying something.

Ashley Marie | 2068 comments I don't know if I'd go that far, Peggy - would've liked to have at least split the doubleheader with New York over the weekend, but they're certainly more lively earlier in the season than we're all used to!

I’m glad Mets won yesterday, it helped the cubs. As long as Mets aren’t playing nl central teams, they can lose every day. Only reason why Mrs Robinson was there is because b too hard to get to LA at her age. She is excused.

I’m not so sure about that - he’s still not that great a teammate and there will still be plenty of protests outside ballparks. If I were a GM, I’d have to think awfully hard and long about that.

Swept in Baltimore! Finally got a great performance from a SP (Lopez) but Mullins walked it off with a two run homer in the 9th. Thank goodness the White Sox are in the division to keep the Twins out of the basement

Ashley Marie | 2068 comments Cleveland took the series in Boston today, and they've only lost a series to NYY so far! The part of me that's extremely accustomed to a slow, stumbly team until at least June is barely daring to believe their record is real right now, and tempering myself with the knowledge that they'll probably hit a slow spot later in the season. But gosh this is fun!

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 12754 comments Here's one for the books. On April 20th The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers will be celebrating Hockey Day and giving away a bobblehead of their mascot, Fang, doing a pirouette while dressed in a hockey uniform. Fang by the way is a snake with arms and legs. Game time is 1:10.

Went to their site to see it. While I’m not a huge fan of bobble heads, that one is pretty cool.

Was going between the Twins and Timberwolves today - Twins finally got both timely hitting and solid pitching. Not going to get my hope up a lot now. Just looking for them to win tomorrow and it would be the first series win since Opening weekend.

It’s sad when a long time dependable starter doesn’t have it anymore. Hendricks joined the Cubs rotation in 2015. Today he has the highest ERA in the majors. If Steele wasn’t on IL, I have a feeling he’d already be gone. My only concern is that another team will pick up on a flyer and he’ll rediscover the magic, but maybe I’m wrong.

Maybe the Twins should look into it - can’t do any worse than Louie Varland, who got shelled again yesterday. Surprised his ERA is lower than Hendricks. Most likely case is Varland gets demoted and Twins bring up Simeon Woods Richardson, who looked good in his one game so far (26th man call up for a doubleheader)
