2024 Regular Season- First Half

I wish the Cubs front office people would get fired. What a mess. I’m glad some others of you have good teams to cheer for this year.

Can I say that as a Cleveland fan their offensive output this season has shocked me too? Lol. Most of us are still wondering when the other shoe will drop, like it's a dream - they hit 50 wins a few days ago and it's still JUNE. Last season it took them til the end of July to reach 50 wins. Needless to say, I'm cautiously excited to see how things progress.

Thanks for the share, Harold! I'm not able to access MLB.com at the office anymore (shock, horror) and by the time I get home I've usually forgotten about anything that sounded interesting. This is a great article and I can definitely tell you the fans have loved watching Kwan unlock his power, especially after what felt like regression in 2023.

Was that Don Orsillo? I miss him.

No; was Jessie Aguilar on radio. Love Orsillo! He does TV play by play. Unfortunately I only get to watch game on TV when MLB has Padres as free game which isn't very often :( I bet Orsillo is thrilled to be back at Fenway for this series!

Hard to believe we’re nearly at the All-Star break. Been watching the games, mainly the Twins but something feels off this season. Sure, Ther’s Elly and his electric play, Paul Skenes living up to the hype and surprise teams like the Guardians..but it just feels like there’s something missing this season that will make everyone talk baseball…
Got my next two MLB trips set up. Twins-Mets at Citi Field July 31 and Red Sox-Diamondbacks on August 24 at Fenway.

In my case I guess the EUROs, soccer in general and several elections may have had something to do with it, though I am still following what is happening in baseball. The election front should cool down by the weekend with the UK election happening Thursday and the second round of the French election on Sunday.

Maybe because Robert knows that come the end of the month, he’ll be elsewhere? I expect a complete sell-off by the White Sox.
Here we go again…Royce Lewis leaves the game in the 6th inning with “groin tightness.” He’s “not very optimistic “ about this but the team is listing him as day to day. First Buxton, now Lewis. Why do the the Twins’ best players always find their way to the IL?

That's one of many reasons why I don't want the Phillies to trade for Roberts. P.S. How about that relay throw by Giminez that nailed the runner at the plate!
The White Sox are not a major league team. I’m sure the throw wasn’t the best , the W Sox are just bad. It is my only solace from the Cubs lost season, knowing that the south side team is worse than they are.

Maybe someone has a supply of voodoo dolls that look like the Twins' players. As good an explanation as any.
Lewis on 10 day IL with the groin injury - Twins call up #2 prospect Brooks Lee who’s in the lineup at third tonight.
Half price ticket and bus transportation to Yankee Stadium Saturday for Yankees- Red Sox. I’m in - got my reservation.
I want to go so bad. I’ll be watching the Sunday night game. Wish I could go to that one but I’m in Ohio and it’s a good 11 hours back to the Bronx.
I hope everyone is having a great 4th. It’s raining where I am. Hopefully the rest of the country is sunny and that means lots of baseball. Of course if the cubs get rained out it means they can’t lose. Maybe rain on the 4th isn’t so bad.

There is (almost) always a good side to everything.
Just got notice that my bus trip to the HOF is cancelled - not enough people signed up as they need a minimum of 10 - only 8 right now. I guess since no one from the Yankees, Mets or Red Sox are getting in there wasn’t a lot of interest by the “locals.”
Although this may be better - yes, I’ll have to drive and pay to park on someone’s yard…but I’ll be on my own schedule so that will help. Or…just thought of this…I may skip the speeches and go for the Saturday parade on Main Street which is my favorite part of HOF weekend. Even more than the ceremony.

For my 80th birthday, four of my friends and I are going to Cooperstown on September 18-20th.
I’ve been twice - once in 1994 on a family vacation and once in 2018. I’m not sure when I will have a chance to go again. It’s not like any cubs players are getting in any time soon.

Yeah, after this year, I don’t think any Twins are getting in soon either. Only one ever mentioned is Torri Hunter and hangs on the ballot at 7-10%.

Jose Miranda has a base hit in 8 consecutive plate appearances - amazing. Only one other Twin has done that this century - Joe Mauer in 2006
Make it 9 straight - Miranda ties three other Twins for the team record. Tony Oliva ( no surprise), Todd Walker (was a decent hitter) and Mickey Hatcher (NEVER would think he had the record)

Miranda ended up with 12 consecutive at bats with a hit (with a HBP for 13 consecutive plate appearances reaching base) tying the record held by three others. He just might make the ASG - I am hoping for him and Correa.
As for the game I attended today - Ben Rice put on a show with 3 HR and 7 RBI. This is the third time I’ve see a Yankee-Red Sox game and all three have been blowouts - two for Boston, now one for NY. Thought this was the “best” rivalry?

Great for Miranda! And bonus points for Astros losing!
Cubs employing an all women broadcast team today - play by play, commentator, and field reporter. These ladies are younger than me. I wish I had this opportunity available, but hopefully they will motivate more women to apply for jobs in sports.

I recall back in the sixties, I think, one of the Toronto Top 40 stations had an all-female DJ lineup. This was a time when it was rare to have one female DJ let alone a whole group. The stations call-letters were CHIC. The station still exists but it has changed both its style and its call letters over the years. Anyway, congratulations to the Cubs for doing this and I am sure there are a few Neanderthals out there that are complaining about it.
I’m sure there are. I love listening to Pat Hughes on the radio. He’s in the hall of fame for a reason. The Cubs have been so under achieving this year so it’s hard to tune into an entire game. I’ll probably split time between the tv and radio.

Twins will have a female play-by-play announcer this week. Longtime Minnesota sports reporter Marney Gellner will join Justin Morneau and Trevor Plouffe for this week’s series vs. the White Sox. She does great work with play by play for the Lynx and she’s been a Minnesota sports fixture for a long time - I think it’s awesome to give her this chance.

And yes, in my Twins groups the reaction has been mostly positive but there are a few “Neanderthals”.
Brina, how are the ladies doing for the Cubs?

They did ok but I switched to the radio broadcast for parts. I’m not a Neanderthal but the cubs are usually my one entertainment for the day so I want the familiarity of the announcers I’m used to. I’m sure with more of an opportunity these ladies would be fine.

It shocks me too, especially since they are 5th in baseball in run differential.
