Dr. Greger starts the book discussing how even as a physician it is a challenge to determine which diet and anti-aging remedies are legit, and which are just spreading misinformation. This is especially true given how easy it is to market these products to people of all ages and background using multiple internet platforms.

He discusses how he and his team have read over 20,000 papers on aging when researching for this book. For those interested, all citations can be viewed online at the link on page 603.

He mentions that “There may be no such thing as dying from old age. From a study of more than 42,000 consecutive autopsies, centenarians - those who lived at least to one hundred - were found to have succumbed to diseases in 100 percent of the cases examined.” He argues that old aging is the leading cause of death due to the fact that the greatest risk factor for most diseases is old age.

Dr. Greger’s book will discuss both lifespan and healthspan.

Looking through the Table of Contents, what part of the book is everyone most interested in?

Rachael, thanks for this. I know after my children attended, along with you, the live "book-signing" event where Dr. Gregor gave his talk we've all been focused on the exercise!

I very much enjoyed reading in the Preface about Marie Curie and the discussion of the use of science through the years as a "panacea for aging"...especially how doing that sometimes that turns out more harmful than good!

I also did really appreciate his comments on "Covid craziness" and how the pandemic has turned many of us sideways.

However my best take away from the beginning of his book was his dedication to his great aunt Pearl, she seemed to live to a healthy 104, and how aging is the actual leading cause of death in our country! I do respect fact that Dr. Greger has some very good family examples as his motivation for his research and writing.

My motivation for doing things like this and also in having my children involved is to improve their health and well-being. I firmly believe that we should LEAD BY EXAMPLE in our own little corner of the world. I myself am not looking so much "Not to Age", but to age gracefully as the best version of myself I can be.

Why are the rest of you interested, if you even indeed even are, in this book?
