Ag12 | 34 comments Dear Goodreads librarians,

This system of adding new books doesn't work. Change and improve it, or just go back to the old system.

My posts of adding new books in different languages are constantly being ignored... And many others encounter the same problems with your system. Is this an inclusive book app for all, or is it only for a select few with an inclination towards one specific language?

I don't want to use this website this any more for my book lists.

To other users: bump this post, if you agree.

Kind regards,

An annoyed Goodreads user

Bruno Rodrigues | 13909 comments Hello Ag12,

I understand your frustration, and you are entitled to express it, but this isn't the place to do it.

There are other, more suited, sections like the General, the Questions or the Policies and Practices sections where you can discuss this.

So please, move this thread into one of those sections, otherwise it will have to be closed as it isn't an 'Add new book' request.

Ag12 | 34 comments Hello Bruno, thank you for taking the time to read my message, but you are part of the problem. I moved the thread to Questions or the Policies, but I strongly doubt anything will change. I already made an Excel file, where I register the books that are not on Goodreads, even though you can find them on Amazon and other book websites. So, I am thinking of moving all my book data to my Excel file (or another app) and leave this platform for good.

Linde | 6549 comments Hi Ag12, of course do what works for you. Just know that Librarians are volunteers and trying to clear the backlog. The [CLOSED] Added Books/Editions folder is growing fast (sometimes with >150 handled requests a day) and the "Adding New Books & Editions" is slowly shrinking, as many new requests are added each day. As Librarians are volunteers, each Librarian can choose which request to work on. We are from all over the world and want to help make Goodreads as complete as possible and to work towards its purpose, with the right information. I see some Librarians for example mainly working on Hebrew, Spanish or Dutch requests. They can also check that data the best, to make sure the quality of handled requests is good.
I'm trying to work with the "first in first out" principle, so I'm doing the oldest ones first. But that's my way, not necessarily the best way for everybody. Just know that requests will be picked up, it just might take time.

Menachem Rath | 2084 comments Hello Ag21,
I understand your frustration. I felt the same when waiting for requests regarding Hebrew books to be handled.
My solution was to join as a volunteer librarian. It works for me since I recently retired and now have more free time.
Could this work for you too? If yes, please see the section
