This book is excellent, but quite unsettling. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I felt like I needed a shower and therapy when I finished and I have no idea why. To me, this was not scary; just the unsettling thing.
Enjoy your reading!! 😂😂

See, this is what I like about books and reading, you can say that and I can find out for myself what you based that on. Obviously everyone interprets stories differently and through their own lens but still, love that. And I'm even more curious to read it now!

This will be my first novel by St. James. She is so popular with you all I know it will be a satisfying experience. Triana is one of my favorites.Loved River Man.

I love when a story is unsettling and keeps me wondering.
I will try to pop in as everyone reads through this. .
Edit: Another unsettling novel is In the Valley of the Sun. Someone here recommended this under the favorite Vampire novel section. The author wrote so well, you almost forget that the MC is a POS who deserves to be horse-whipped with acid. Anyway; that is also an unsettling novel that is highly recommended 🤣😩🤦🏾

Wish we could pause time and just read till we can't stand it anymore. But then how do you un-pause it and go on? :P

Ah same, but also new to Triana! There is a sequel to River Man as well.

Its so true. If you read it, you will know what I mean; but the author makes him sympathetic a la Jaime Lannister. Ugh.

I added the 2nd book too; but may not read it any time soon.
I just learned that a Kindle copy of Murder Road is in excess of $15 so I listed it on my Library's HOLD List. It is highly unlikely I will get to read it by April 30th. I will participate in the runner-up read with Triana's River Man, which I have read and own. I am still looking forward to the Group Reads Author Invites as well.
I just got the ebook. Don't know what it is but I really like the title. Can't wait. I'm only hearing positive things.

Ah I know, bummer, come back to the thread when you get it, there's no cut off for posting comments and a lot of people come back and read them even when the month is over, Ive been catching up to buddy reading threads my friends have for the Preston and Child Pendergast book series for a few years, even tho they read the books years before me, still fun :)

I’m in! This one has been on my TBR for a while so I’ll definitely give it a go. Although it might get here mid April so I won’t be talking about it right away
oh, baby this is a TITAN! I'm so excited to see what everyone thinks about this one. maybe I need a reread now too, come to think of it!
Finished this gem today; will stop in to see how you all find it! Triana is definitely one of the best 'new' horror authors today.

What a compliment, have you read the sequel?

I can’t sleep so I’m going to start this one :D I’ve read some of this author’s work before and heard it makes for quite a disturbing read! Intrigued by all your comments here and can’t wait to see what you all think once am done
I read this a little while back and it was so good. Not really a scary horror story, more like creepy and unnerving. I read both this and Along the River of Flesh (book 2 and the continuation of Edmund's story) back to back and that one was even creepier. (view spoiler)
I've had the ebook for some months now. I first learned of Triana from TikTok and was intrigued by the plot so I purchased this book. This was before the sequel was released. I hope to start this later today or tomorrow morning.
I'm half way through and got to a very disturbing art I was not expecting. It's well written imo. And this river man is intriguing.

I read this just a little bit ago and am so am looking forward to discussing! I must admit after reading I then got pretty obsessed with this author and read the sequel, which I did not like as much, but went on to Full Brutal and really liked it.I listened to it and the audio read by Dani George is perfect if anyone is looking to listen.
I just began Baker's first volume of Books of Blood. I am an avid fan of Trains though and knew that group members would revel in there exposure to River Man. I loved it and I would have to say the sequel is more chilling still. Anyway, would love to join in any part of the discussion on River Man!!!
I just posted about River Man and the text program of this Fire Tablet changed Barker to "Baker" and Triana to "Trains". I am not amused. Sorry about grammatical errors.

Omgosh it gest crazier? Ahh!!

Woke up early this morning to finish the book. Wow! What a punch of an ending. While reading I resolved to not try and "guess" how it would end; so, to say I was satisfied by it would be an understatement. I couldn't imagine it ending any other way. While there were some truly horrific scenes within, I definitely agree with others (here in the thread) that it was more unsettling than scary. (view spoiler)
The story took many twists and turns I wasn't expecting and this is what lead to the excitement for me.

This entire novel was so well written. Very early on I thought the pacing was a bit off--too fast without much lead in; however, later I realized Triana just wanted to get to the good parts, the meaty parts, of the story.
This was my first experience with Triana and it won't be my last. I am, for sure, going to read the sequel and look into other works by him.
I finished the book! Once you're in is very hard to put it down. Definitely disturbing, but fascinating to understand the mind of the main character. Well written. There were some very cool descriptions towards the end that created quite 'nice' imagery; atmospheric. Would very much like to read the next.

I finished this book and found it to be very well written. The story is definitely disturbing especially when you start getting into the mind of the main character. I did not expect that ending!

Starting it next week Alondra! lol So looking forward to what you are describing! LOL
I really enjoyed this book. It can get pretty dark and disturbing, but I really enjoy that kind of stuff. I plan on purchasing the second book and reading that one, too.
Be back later; going to bleach my brain cells with a story about kittens, puppies, unicorns or something cotton-candy-esque to CLEANSE myself after reading this. I may also need an exorcist on standby.

I am posting my original review for "Going to See the River Man". This novel made me a fan or Triana's perhaps for the foreseeable future. I have read a lot by him at this point. He is one of a kind. There is a debate going whether his sequel last year "Along the River of Flesh" was superior or just not as good. Personally, I felt the sequel was fleshed out more (pun naturally intended).

Watching a few episodes of The Golden Girls or I Love Lucy usually works for me after a harrowing book/movie/show. Or a cooking video about making bread or something.

Was most definitely deep and disturbing. The river scenes were grotesque. The story well written. I did not expect the ending. After everything she went so willingly. I guess one would do anything for love. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
