Tim Pyke | 19 comments Was good to find this group as I was struggling to work out what genre my book was, I thought spiritual fiction, but visionary fiction sounds much better.

Sonya Deanna Terry (sea-sprite) | 3 comments A little-known genre that's gradually gaining momentum. I think the term visionary fiction might have been coined by the American author Michael Gurian: "The Miracle" (2003) "An American Mystic" (2000) but I might be wrong.

Hi Jodine,
Thank you for this link to your 2009 Writers Journal article, which defines so beautifully the essence of visionary fiction. I will send the article to anyone who is interested in learning more about this mystical brand of literature. I particularly liked your reference to the genre "offer[ing] a vision of humanity as we dream it could be." Also loved your poetic description of the "metaphysical gem" that nestles between words.
Don't know how I could have missed it (being a member of the VFA and all!)
Kind regards,
Sonya

I've been having the same problem with my book 'The Rhiannon Blade. I think I can comfortably go with visionary fiction also.
