This novella is set on the planet of Panga, a couple centuries after robots first gained consciousness and then humans and robots agreed to part ways. Dex, a tea monk, is struggling to find the greater purpose to their life when they decide, semi-spontaneously, to venture to an abandoned hermitage in the wilderness. During their trip, they encounter the robot Mosscap (the first human-robot encounter in centuries!), who is on its own quest to understand what humans need.
This book was warm, and cozy, and beautiful - similar in vibe to Legends & Lattes, but with less plot and more explicit philosophy/reflection on the meaning of life. I was curious what I'd think of the philosophy component - it's easy for books to go too far with that - but this worked really well for me. I also enjoyed the discussion of Dex's religion and work as a monk, which permeated the book.
Definitely planning to read the second book in this series, and I will probably think about purchasing a copy of this so I can reread it in the future.
