The Phantom of the Opera - Week 2
March 17 - March 23
Chapters: 6 - 12

1) M. Richard & M. Moncharmin are still unconvinced about the Opera Ghost. They receive a letter retirating his demands and Carlotta receives one encouraging her to stay home. Do you think the new managers are still convinced the old managers are trying to pull the wool over their eyes? After Carlotta loses her voice "co-ack!" and the chandelier falls which kills one and wounds many others, do you think M. Richard & M. Moncharmin will change their tune?

2) Poor Raoul, how do you imagine things will play out for him? Will he win Christine in the end? Or will he have his heart broken?

3) We've learned a bit about the Phantom. Why is he so interested in the Opera? Why do you think he's obsessed with Christine?

4) Although in this week's reading, we learn where the Phantom lives. How do you think he goes out and about (to buy food and things for Christine) without raising questions and having people be afraid of whim the way many of the opera staff are?

Nancy | 254 comments This has been a more absorbing read than I expected, and I admit that I don’t have a clue as to what will happen. Eric seems to have some supernatural powers which I hope will be explained.

I read this a few years ago and this book really made me think about Erik and his life as a child.
