Imaginarium | 124 comments I have a question regarding creating series.

There are some books that have a couple of different translations. One publisher released translations of many books of a given author. These translations have dedicated and lengthy introductions (not to be found in other translations). The publisher itself calls this series by a specific name. It would make sense to have it reflected on Goodreads. But I don't know if it's even possible to create a series with selected editions.

The matter is complicated further by the fact that each book of said publisher also has a few editions (hardcover, paperback, ebook).

Let's look at the books in question. I'm posting only 2 books, but the series has 6 books in total.

The World as Will and Representation, Vol 1

The World as Will and Representation: Volume 2
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

The series name:
The Cambridge Edition of the Works of Schopenhauer

The entire series of the publisher contains these books:
On the Fourfold Root of the Principle of Sufficient Reason and Other Writings
The World as Will and Representation. Volume 1
The World as Will and Representation. Volume 2
Parerga and Paralipomena: Short Philosophical Essays. Volume 1
Parerga and Paralipomena: Short Philosophical Essays. Volume 2
The Two Fundamental Problems of Ethics

Here is a link to the series on the publisher's website:

If something like that is indeed possible, then I will prepare all the links, all the information, and create a dedicated thread in the proper forum.

It would be very valuable to have it as a series, since this is a complete and consistent (between the books) translation of major works of philosophy of this author. And the consistency of translation is very important.

Is something like this possible?
If it's not possible, is there an alternative that would work?

Renske | 12220 comments One of the point in the Goodreads definition of a series is that is should apply to all editions, so a publication like this is not a series here, but an imprint.

The alternative is to make a listopia list for these editions.

Imaginarium | 124 comments Thank you!

I am not familiar with the concept of "imprint" and how does it work. Could you please link me to an example of such a thing on Goodreads?

Do you think this is the best approach? If yes, how can I then request the creation of such an imprint collection of books?

Renske | 12220 comments My explanation wasn't clear, an imprint is not a function on Goodreads. Imprints are brands within a publishing company. And we consider here a collection like your example an imprint.

Creating a listopia list here is the alternative to group any books together that are not series here.

Tawnya | 4028 comments We really do need something for which they are asking. A set of encyclopedias isn't a series, but there should definitely by a way that someone see the entire set (and ONLY those books) at once. Listopias are worthless for that. Between people being able to add items willy-nilly and the whole "voting" it negates what should be a simple idea.

I see. How do I request reflecting an imprint on Goodreads?

Yes. That would be great. Of course, such a feature would take a lot of time to be implemented on Goodreads (as it has to be approved by project managers, stakeholders, then analyzed, UXed, implemented, etc.). In the meantime, we could have a temporary solution.

And we have to keep in mind that this case requires creating a(n ordered) collection of specific editions of books, not just books themselves.

Imaginarium | 124 comments I created a list for the paperback editions:
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

From what I gather, other people could vote to add additional items to the list. It would be wrong to arbitrarily expand the list, since the series is complete.

How can I request creating an imprint on Goodreads?

I've made the list static, so it is no longer possible to vote.

How can I request creating an imprint on Goodreads?
Repeating what Renske said above: Creating a listopia list here is the alternative to group any books together that are not series here.
