Annotated books?

What are yall's thoughts on annotated books? Do you like the idea of them? Would you do them yourself or purchase an annotated copy from someone else?

i love annotated books because they're personalised, also front cover book art (the inspo on pinterest is amazing). though i do prefer annotating on hardcover books rather than floppy ones.
i think annotating one yourself as well as buying an annotated ones are both great options because they both have a nice personal touch. my friend once gave me a book that she annotated as a gift and it's really funny to read all the notes
